This may surprise you, but it is not because of your beliefs.
Rather, it is because of your pride in forcing those beliefs onto others - through law, and taking away people's right to choose for themselves, a secular path.
No one is forcing you to accept gay marriage - just to let individuals decide for themselves, and even if it is legal, you have every right to maintain your personal opinion.
No one is forcing you to have a first trimester abortion if you cannot afford a proper life for that child. Just that you let people decide for themselves, and face the consequences for themselves.
No one is forcing you to believe in evolution - just to keep your beliefs that are faith-based, out of public schools.
No one is forcing you to accept Atheists, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, secular Deists, etc - just that you allow them to practice, with choice, the morals of their own if they do not directly affect you.
Stop trying to be prideful, stop proselytizing - you won't be hated as much

To "Fish" - no - being prideful is not a good Christian - or do you only select your rules to follow, and apply self-defnition to "God" mandated rule?
Practice as you wish, for your own self - that's great. That's fantastic. I'd have much more respect for Christians, if they all kept to their own.
But do not put your laws into effect on people and take away their right to live out their own path. That is pride, and you know it, sir.

To: "Poncho Rio"
Of course I'm a US citizen, it angers me because fundamentalist Christians are taking away my rights, and the rights of others.
Borders schmoreders, foreigners, schmoreigners - do you really think God cares about manmade borders?

Couldnt have said it better my self...You know, before I started using yahoo answers I never knew that the American Christians were so narrow minded and stuck up...I thought that Muslims were extreme but now I have seen it all...Also, they never bothered to find out that homosexuals seek civil partnership and not a marriage with grooms etc.. I really cant understand how such a developed nation can have religious people acting as if they were back in the 18th century. What can I say...go figure..

Point 1: If gay marriage were legalized, children would be taught that in school. My kids are in school, therefore it will be forced upon me and my kids that it is "natural". If I was in a business and did not want to recognized the "marriage" I would be sent to jail/fined. That forces it on me.
Point 2: The abortion issue is a moral issue. It is being shown time and time again that the babies in the first trimester can feel pain, etc. Would you kill a second or third trimester or even a 1 month old child? What is the cutoff point and why?
Point 3: I would not want the secular school with atheist teachers teaching creation. Can you imagine the distortion they would put on it? However, I do believe there needs to be some balance in how evolution is being taught as it is not so cut and dry as evolutionist would like (of course I don't believe it at all).
Point 4: We do not stop other religions from practicing, however we are commanded in the Bible to go out to all the world and share the Gospel (which means good news). We hope that others will realize the only way to Heaven is through Jesus Christ.
Sorry, I don't consider us prideful and we can't stop proselytizing as this has been commanded of us. Oh, and we have been told already in the Bible how much we would be hated by Jesus himself. Paraprasing it, Jesus says that if He was treated that badly, why would we be treated any better?

Okay, I totally get the whole not liking it when people try to force their religious beliefs on someone else. It would really irk me if scientologists got uber political and tried to make it law that we watch Mission Impossible 3. I DON'T get how people who aren't Christian but are active participants on Answers make CONSTANT accusations towards Christians, and Christians alone...and then say that's what Christians do. I've seen just as much close-minded babble from atheists on here. This SO isn't directed at the asker, but I felt it had to be said. I WILL say that certainly you can understand the whole debate about abortion. People who feel abortion is wrong don't see it as a woman's choice- they see it as killing a fetus. In that respect, you're choosing to end someone else's life, not just have a medical procedure. With that particular issue, you have to look at perspective in order to understand why people are so up in arms about it. As for the other stuff, I could definitely understand why you'd be frustrated. I can't understand why you'd hate people though. That seems a bit extreme. I also don't think it's a matter of pride, at least not concerning true Christians. I think it's a matter of seeing the world around you go down a path that you know (or to be politically correct, that you feel) is wrong. If you knew a bunch of people were going to walk into a room where some crazed gunman was hanging out, you'd want to warn them not to go in there. Again, you have to consider the perspective. My advice would be to quit hanging out in the religious section of Answers for a while. It's such a heated section, and it's full of stupid people on both sides of the fence. The more you hang out in there, the more frustrating it becomes, regardless of your beliefs.

You won't allow people to protect little babies in the womb. They are currently being killed all the way up to birth.
Our marriage laws were designed to provide financial protection to mothers and children. They are state interference into the family. It just doesn't make any sense to apply those laws to homosexuals.
School children need to learn about evolution. But it is a lie to tell them that it is proven.
The Christians who founded this country are the ones who set up a system of tolerance for those other religions and non-religions. Some of them don't believe in extending tolerance to others. By the way, Deists believe in God, they are not really secular.
The Jews are the only ones you listed who are not proselytizing. Although, prior to Roman persecution, they were strong proselytizers.
Go ahead and hate Christians if you want.

Even I, as a Christian Pastor, must agree with you that it is a matter of choice not legislation.
Perhaps if the Church was doing it's job and preaching the Word of God instead of the dribble that is evident in most Churches it wouldn't be necessary to try to pass laws.
When will they ever learn that laws don't make a Christian.
They didn't learn the lesson of the Jewish people and the Law of Moses.
It wouldn't work either.
Bottom line, you can not through legislative measures convert people to Christianity.

We are not proselytizing. We just tell the Truth and let God do the choosing. The fact that sometimes you are hated is because when
people hear the truth there is nothing else to do you either come to God by faith in Jesus Christ or harden your heart and continue doing your thing. We hate no one just feel sorry for them because we know the end. Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. It is your choice.

Hmm are we talking about the same United States? The US that I live in doesn't hate only christians.. this US is free.. and everyone has the right to hate everyone equally. Why are you singling christians out? If you don't appreciate their beliefs, don't subscribe to them in your daily interactions with others - it's not like they are forcing themselves on you, there are law's against that. ")
I am proud to say I am a christian, and no, I don't force my beliefs on anyone or have any less respect for them. In fact, I regularly listen to other peoples' views about their beliefs and appreciate that they have something that they find peace and satisfaction with.
Perhaps you should re-evaluate what it is that you hate.. is it christians, or that they believe something you feel strongly against?

Wow, now that you mention it, I realize that many of my NON Christian friends, co -workers, neighbors are even more militant about such things than I am. Many, MANY of them are the homophobic ones, and yes, they too will tell you exactly what they think of abortion (and it isn't pretty in their language either).
Many people have strong feelings on the subjects you speak of, without knowing God at all (except to use HIS name in vain during their conversations).
Oh, and I am not hated at all by anyone.

Thank you, I couldn't have said it better myself. Of course, Christians won't feel the affects of your statement, seeing as how they are the dominant religion in most first-world nations, but very well-said. I laugh out loud when I hear Christians calling us agnostics/atheists arrogant for our beliefs. It just goes to show you how arrogant,narrow-minded and hypocritical a group of people can be, even in this modern age.
