Okay, I'm not a christian, but I am going to answer this and provide some Bible verses because the Christians who read this will ask me for them anyway.
You see, God is a sick f*ck, and enjoys enjoys a good rape. If you look at the story of Lot, it becomes clear that God thought Lot was a stand-up guy for offering his virgin daughters to a mob of would-be angel rapers. Jehovah is something of a homophobe, so the idea that the rapists would be getting some teen girly action was much better for him to get his jollies off on.
Now that doesn't prove my point here just by itself, does it. If you read the following verses, you will find that God often rewards his minions with all the virgin-raping they want.
Judges 21:10-24
Numbers 31:7-18
Deuteronomy 20:10-14
Deuteronomy 21:10-14
Deuteronomy 22:23-29
2 Samuel 12:11-14
Judges 5:30
Exodus 21:7-11
Zechariah 14:1-2
Taken as a whole, I have to stand on my statement that God is a sick f*ck. Frankly, he's not worth worshipping.

Do you believe in free will? Do you believe YOU have the choice to do what ever you please no matter what you might think that God thinks about it? This is the freedom that God has given mankind. Free will. If He forced us to do what was right and/or what he wanted, we wouldn't be human. We'de be robots.
Since there is free will, man has the capacity to do evil things. The Bible calls this sin because it is NOT what God wants.
The horrific tragedies in the world that you describe in your question can only be blamed on God if you believe that He shouldn't have given us the freedom to do as we chose.
What christians believe is that God does have a plan to deal with such wickedness. It is a plan to deal with sin through grace and forgiveness first (which leads to a changed heart and life style on the part of those who believe) and then to deal with sin through jugdement (or the final justice as I call it). Christians believe that such wickedness as you describe will one day be dealt with. God has the last word.
And Christianity does believe that God looks after the innocent ones. You and I don't get to see it, however until later on.
In the mean time, I believe that the only hope to change this sin-ridden world resides in those who believe in a God of right and wrong and who have the guts to at least try and make a difference in the world.
I grieve with you over the state of affairs and the brutal abuse of the innocent in many parts of the world today, including America. A Christian writer named Randy Stonehill wrote a song that addresses the subject you bring up. It was entitled "Can Hell Burn Hot Enough?"
Hope that was simple enough. Peace.

Dear aussiechick,
I hope to help you understand a little better this situation.... First, we must understand that none of us is innocent, even little children! We have to see what God says and that is the measuring stick. In Romans 3:10,11 the Bible tells us that there is none righteous no, not one. There is none that seeketh after God. In Psalms 58:1-4 we are also told by God that from the womb children tell lies! In Psalms 51:5 God tells us that we are conceived in sin--that is we are sinners even before we are born! So in spite of what we have been led to believe, God tells us, and the Bible is God's word, that humans are sinners. You do not have to teach a child to be a sinner, they are very adept at it because that is what they are (Just like you do not have to teach a fish to swim).
Now you also must remember that the world is under the curse of God. When Adam and Eve sinned in the garden of Eden, the Lord also cursed the ground. Picture this, sinful man walking around in a perfect world with no disease, no poisonous spiders or snakes, no famines, or volcanoes. Man would live a pretty nice life an then die and go to hell. In order to allow man to see how grievous sin is, He cursed the earth so that we could experience these troubles and hopefully look for help (from God).

God Is Powerful and the saviour.
God know to reach some and for some people to believe that sometimes bad things must happen. If there wasn't any bad things happening and all things were always good... why would we need his grace and mercy. He is also teaching us that you can't count on man.... because man will let you down. BUT God have never raped or murder anyone . Sometimes we believe and trust in people to much. We should put all out trust and hope in someone that would never leave us or forsake us. Also sin has alot to do with it.
Sin and unbelievers do things like what you were asking about. If someone truely Have Jesus in there heart and serving him with there whole heart they want be doing the things you ask about!!
Without God in someone life they will do much more worst things than you and myself can imagine

Maybe he believes that it would help in the long run. If they are murdered, maybe he believes they would do better in heaven than they would ever have done here on Earth.
Also, if children suffer, he must have a reason. Maybe it is to make them stronger and to be able to cope with the future, or as a sacrifice for people to realize the horrors of the world, so that they may make it a better place.
The important thing is that even if children suffer and die every day, they go one to a happier place, because God realizes their suffering and he is merciful, so he will let them to heaven. There is always a reason for what happens in this universe. PLus the important thing is, God doesn't kill children, as stated above. He loves his children, and it is humans that kill humans, not God.

Simple, honest answer. The alternative is to wipe out mankind and start anew. The next step is to create a new man who is incapable of harming others and can only do good. If we made them, we'd call them robots.
He chose instead to create fully vibrant beings with the ability to exercise free will, then told us to take care of each other. We don't, so bad guys kill, rape, etc.
But there is a plan B. After our few measley years here, we go to a place where we find the killed and the raped and the tortured.
If we tried at all to prevent that, we get to stay with them for eternity while the guys who did all that get to go elsewhere away from us.
And we get to keep our free will because now he knows what our will is.

Your blaming God? The prince of this world is the Devil, we can start there. The Devil, is trying to kill, steal and destroy all life, yes most off all innocent babies! remember the passover...all 1st born male children...and when Jesus was born...all male children under 2yrs old were killed. Because of the profecy spoken by God to the Serpend in the Garden of Eden. Gen 3:15 "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel." Ever since then he's been trying to kill any offspring the woman has, because he didn't want Jesus to defeat him! The enemy will never stop, he doesn't sleep, he roams around waiting to see who he can devour. You can't ask a question like this and not get a Bible verse, sorry.

God doesn't kill innocent children. People do. Though it may seem that He is not looking after them He does take them straight to heaven when some monster on earth takes their lives. The death of even one child does not go unnoticed. We have many more laws and safety mechanisms in place because of the children who have died. That may have been their purpose on this earth. We cannot expect to make sense of all that happens. I trust God that He knows what He's doing. If you are going to blame anyone, blame Satan and the people who fall for his evil schemes.

God could intervene, but he has chosen to allow us to have free will and make our own decisions. It grieves God to see children suffer, the ones who do these terrible will be judged for it some day. Children who die a terrible death like this go to heaven. All young children go to heaven We live in an evil world, but Jesus is coming back to get those who are ready so we can be spared what is coming in the great tribulation.

God gave us free will and does not kill people. Our choices here on Earth kill people. Kinda makes you wonder if any prayers really get answered, if everything that happens is just a result of our actions. I guess if you believe that God answers prayers to save some, then he does kill others through his inaction. I have changed my mind. We are all ants, and God is a magnifying glass.
