It is a very low platelet count with no cause. They usually put you on high doses of immunoglobulin to try to make you pump out these platelets, if that doesn't work, they remove your spleen.
Symptoms are all related to the low platelets.
Bruising
bleeding you cannot get stopped
bloody nose or blood in your urine or stool or anywhere for that matter.

i have it was told 2 yrs now it started with a simple nose bleed that wouldnt stop i did have burises but ignored them if you think you have it go for a blood test all the above answers r true so dont take any chances i visit the pdsa@pdsa.org for information on it its so common and i had never heard of i.t.p before our platlets so it can be fatal if your count drops to low

Thrombocytopenic" means the blood doesn't have enough platelets. "Purpura" means a person has excessive bruising.
