I want to better my game, but don't want to buy a whole library. What one, or maybe two poker books are the best? I have been looking at Super System/Super System 2, and Theory of Poker, as well as a few others. What book helped you the most, and why?

I think most would say Doyle Brunson's Super System I. Sklansky's Theory of Poker and Harrington on Hold 'em by Dan Harrington are great too.

I wouldn't think you would need more that those 3. The best way to better your game though, is simply to play and talk strategy at online poker forums - books can only take you so far.

Good luck in your quest to become a better player.

This is a hard question to answer for two main reasons. People (even the pros) play differently. So Harrington's poker theroy is going to be slightly different then Bunson's. The key I have found is to spend more time learning the people who you play with on a regular basis. You can continue to learn by watching them. Most people may pick up on a tell and tend to stop there and use that single tell. Most people have multiple tells. Be patient and continue to learn the tells of the regulars. Secondly, learn the theroys of many people and try them out for yourself, not just once but for some time. Overtime you will find which author you play most like. Good Luck!

You neglected to mention what your game is. The answer would be different depending on the stakes levels and whether the game is a cash game or a tournament.

For tournaments I think it is hard to beat Harrington on Holdem volumes 1 and 2. This guy has a clear writing style that is easy to follow and very insightful. It is by far the best book(s) I have read. Since I read it I won two league tournaments in my home time. The first time I beat nearly 200 players and won a trip to Atlantic City, and then I came second in the best player tournament beating 76 of the best players in the league to win another casino trip.

I've still got a lot to learn and need to follow his advice better, but his books did take my game to the next level.

There are many excellent books, but to pick just one it would be Brunson's Super System. It has the thoughts of not just Doyle Brunson but Caro, Sklansky and others.
