On entering Canada they will ask you your citizenship and if you have anything to declare. Sometimes they will check for no reason. But if they do check they will not let you enter into Canada with a DUI on your record. I had a friend of mine tried to come to visit and he said something to triger them to check and he was refused entry. His DUI was some 20 years before. Any answer you give them will sometimes triger a check.

Every person is interviewed, but the checks they do are for contraband goods, and sometimes they are random, sometimes they include all passengers.
I'm not sure that a DUI would set off any alarms, however. What they are looking for has more to do with security issues than criminal offenses, unless you are planning to immigrate. Then the checking becomes a little more than routine and shows up all sorts of things. But I've never heard of a felony check for a casual visitor. Check with the nearest Canadian consulate. They will certainly be able to tell you.

What should that matter? You're a licensed driver, right? They don't do much checking on the way into Canada; they do most of their checking when you are trying to get back into the US. The US border guards can be real jerks.

my dad is a truck driver and when he called immigration, they told him, ironically enough, that a DUI will not stop you from entering into Canada, likewise, it will not stop you from entering into the states. so, if by chance, they do ask, it won't hinder your trip.

a minor assault charge on the other hand, will stop you from entering either country. depending on the officer in the kiosk of course.

hope this helps

If you're American, I doubt you'll be checked at all. Just don't do anything stupid at the checkpoint and answer all of the questions honestly. Having a passport will get you through easier and faster, but it isn't necessary. Do nothing suspicious and you're pretty well clear.

random. and i doubt they'll care about your dui (unless you're loaded at the time). just make sure you declare everything in case they do check your car.
