I can't speak 4 other Ford owners but I own a 1991 Mustang GT and it has 197,567 miles - has never had any major problems. As a matter of fact it still has the original starter. It is by far the most trouble free car I ever owned:) Now if u want 2 hear about my ex-wifes 1992 Taurus LX. I'll be gentle, what a piece of S..T But my GT is a gem:)

Hmmm.... The new Fords do seem to SUCK. But in the past, they were pretty good vehicles. My '79 F-150 truck was as solid as they come. It's 351 V8 was pretty reliable and powerful, albeit a gas guzzler. The quality just isn't very good today though, probably because Ford is trying to keep up with foreign companies. Just 9 years can show the difference. My '88 Ranger will soon be seeing bondo (rust-through), and can anyone say electrical gremlins? The F and the O fell off the tailgate. I have a RD. And it sucks.

I just can't believe how many ignorant people there are here.
I went for a hike in the junkyard the other day, looking for parts for my 72 F-100 I am restoring (lucky day at the yard, for sure), and guess what I saw? Chevys, Fords, Dodges, Nissans, Hondas, Acuras, Isuzus, Mitsubishis, Mercedes, even a Porche. This has lead me to the following conclusion: They are all junk, so go with what you like. If you respect, understand, and maintain your vehicle, it will be good to you, and the next owner. If you beat on it, don't change the oil, let the coolant run out, or drive it like you're trying to kill it, you'll kill it.
The Japanese companies built their presence by offering cheap throwaway vehicles that could handle reduced maintenance by incompetant drivers. So don't blame the American carmakers for expecting their owners to have a clue and maintain their vehicles.

The newer model Fords are far more reliable than past years and most have Japenese transmissions. The person who said Toyota was Chinese does not know anything about cars. Toyotas are Japanese. Yes the old Fords had a bad reputation for reliability but so did alot of American cars including Chevy and Dodge. But the modern American cars are alot more reliable.

cause they got some problem designs like the rest of the car makers.. nissan and toyota and the bunch still have their gremblins.. but all the american cars have their share of problematic designs as well as cars that go half a million miles and only needed regular maintainace....

I could say many things like why chevy sucks or toyota sucks or any one of the car makers, as they will always have someone to back you up on it... I know a guy whos had problems with every GM car he ever had , runs a ford and almost never has problems.. luck of the draw or thae fact that certain car makes like certain people:-)

Well, I have to defend ford from personal experience on this one. I have had a number of fords Trucks and Cars and they have always done well for me. My first vehicle was a 67 ford mustang :) Love it, still have it, don't ever want to sell it. Our f150 we had was a work horse did everything we needed without hesitation (traded it because of rising gas prices though). Our for mustang 98 was quick and reliable (traded it because there was no room for a car seat). I am not a die hard ford driver but they have done me well.

My 1993 Ford Escort just hit its 200,000th mile and still gets 35 miles to the gallon. I spend about $500 a year in maintenance other than routine maintenance to keep it running. So, I guess it depends on your viewpoint.

Because they are constantly changing their engines, parts, designs, minds... And nothing is interchangeable. That makes parts more prone to breaking when only one year of design and R&D was put into it, and more expensive since it only fits one year when you go to replace something!

I agree, most Fords suck.
