I've looked over the US sites about immigration a thousand times and it's just too much and too confusing! I need to know the process (include exact forms and fees please, and if possible the time duration) of getting my husband US citizenship. I was born here so i'm a legal citizen but my husband is from mexico and has been living here illegally since high school. We want his citizenship so he can go to college among other things.

Further details:
He's been in this country since 1999.
He's 22 years old.
He graduated high school in 2003, here in california.
We've been married for less than a month.

Also if anyone has any information on how to join the military if your illegal, i'd appreciate that as well.

Please, any help anyone can give us, especially those who have already been through the process, will be thoroughly appreciated. Thank you. :)

You need to look for the forms on petitioning for your husband. That is what it is called...petition.

Also, it used to be that he would be required to leave the country while the petition was going on but I think that has changed.

Just call INS.

BTW, he can get a work permit while the petition is in processing and even a temp. social security number.

I'd first go talk to a recruiter, I'm sure they want all kinds of folks to join, and can probably give all the information on how to deal with the Illegal issue. Your best bet is the INS, and do it right.

You should get a immigration Lawyer since he broke the law it will be harder to get permanent residence status. After being permanent for 5 years he can apply for Citizenship.

Just go and see a Lawyer all the thing it's going to be around $4000 but if you go and see a notary will be around a $1000, don't let him join the army to get the stupid *** green card go an see the Lawyer or notary...another question, does he has a VISA??
