Our colors are magenta and black. I just can't seem to come up with something pretty and cheap at the same time! :-( I want to stay around $10 - $15 per centerpiece. (We are having about 35 tables)

I am from Santa Clara CA I had tall fresh flower centerpieces.

You could still have some fresh flower arrangements made for around 10-15 a peice, you actually can have some really really pretty fresh flower arrangements made for that price. I had some very nice table arrangements for my reception and they werent that expensive. I would just give your florist, who is doing the rest of your flowers, a budget and see what she can do with that amount...

Congrats!

Goldfish bowls. They are inexpensive. You can go to a Dollar Store or Crafts store for the glass bowls for about a dollar a piece. Or if you live near a flea market.....even better.
Goldfish are pathetically cheap. Put little marbles in the bottom of the bowls to add color and sparkle. My best friend had a big splashy wedding, and had goldfish bowls on all the tables as centerpieces. Everyone that wanted one was able to take a pet home after the reception. Plus, the fish were entertaining and great ice breakers for people sitting at tables that weren't well acquainted.
To avoid an overpopulation of unwanted fish after the party, you may ask some friends to help you find "homes" for the fish ahead of time, just in case.
You'll have a memorable centerpiece that's entertaining for everyone.

Tabletops are expensive aren't they? First trick in the book, seat more people at the tables to cut down the number of centerpieces you have to make. If you are using 60" rounds you can seat 10, 72" rounds can seat 12. Banquet style seating is even better because it only requires a centerpiece every other (connected) table.
A very inexpensive centerpiece is 9 votive candles, with a 1.5" ribbon wrapped around to form a square (doublestick tape and a couple straight pins). This shouldn't cost you more than $8 per table. If there are very high ceilings, you may want to consider doing a few tables around the room with high centerpieces to draw the eye up.

The fish idea is great, but use bettas instead of any other kind of fish. Goldfish are messy and others need special requirements such as heated and aerated tanks. You can also find your wedding colors in different bettas. PetsMart usually has a ton of bettas at a resonable price less than $5/fish. Plus you can stock up on rock, but get cheap bowls at a dollar store. Another idea is to put live flowers in the bowl as you would a vase, thus you have color and amusement. Have you also thought about including disposable cameras at your tables?

hi-first, congrats on getting married! For centerpieces, you can use baby food jars (tear off the paper thats around them though) and put something in it.. like magenta/black rocks or whatever.. also..you can check out the wedding aisle at walmart..They really have a lot of great things you can use for cheap too! Hope everything turns out!

HI, I think that a cheap vase from walmart $6-8 and a magenta color candle with dollar store clear or white stones in it will look simple but elegant. This on top of a lace matte. Also try IKEA for nice vases.

Try a clear bowl with either black or magenta rocks at the bottom, fill it about 3/4 with water, then light white (or, if you can find them, magenta) floating candles. Put either flower petals or confetti around the base, and, if you like, ribbon. Easy, cheap, elegant.

How about a fish in a decorative bowl? Maybe say a red fish with black and clear stones at the bottom.
Otherwise, silk flowers in vases on the tables.
