Following the US/Mexico war, both the United States and Mexico signed the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo, in the year 1848. Additionally, the United States paid the country of Mexico 15 million dollars for the lands. Now, it seems, the treaty's being walked back. What do you think of 'si, se puede', and claims against american lands? Spurious, or intentional act of belligerency?

The mexicans don't want our land, they want our way of life, our money, healthcare, our government. Sorry, I think spurious. Cry me a river.

Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and southern California were areas that were once owned by Mexico. The Texas Mexican war and the US Mexican war took the land by force. So maybe in one since yes Mexico does have some kind of a legal claim to portions of the area there. However the USA would never recognize any claim.

You don't need to worry though because as soon as the secret pages of NAFTA and GAT treaties are released it won't make any difference anyway because Mexico will be part of Unit #1 with the USA and Canada.

Good idea, let's follow the Treaty of Guadelupe Hidalgo... I hope all the citizens of California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, and Nevada know Spanish, because it's their new co-official language. Only the state of New Mexico still follows the treaty by aknowledging Spanish as an official language.

Also, people of Mexican/Spanish descent are legally given the right to protect their culture by the treaty.... so much for forcing them to assimilate.

"Si, se puede" was the rallying cry for the United Farmworker's Union led by Cesar Chavez, who was responsible for my not being able to eat grapes when I was a young child. My mother told me we were supporting the workers to help them get a wage a man could raise a family on.

Cesar Chavez was violently against illegal immigrants. Look up the history of the UFW on that point and you will see that I use the term 'violently' with cause. He thought they undermined the labor movement goals of a living wage and benefits for workers.

I think it is highly ironic that they are using that term.

As to ownership of land, we aren't Mexico, and we do let foreign nationals buy land. Do they have a properly recorded deed? If so, they have a lawful claim to some US land.

Otherwise, not.

Only if you ignore all the real world claims. Like the UNations gave it to them. And they bought land with money. And won wars. And it was unclaimed territory from the break up of an empire. And Jews lived there for over 3000+ years, & had every right to self-rule in a sliver of the Middle East. The bigotry is that people falsely accuse Jews of claiming Israel because "God gave it to them." That's not what Jews claim. They claim God promised it. Which explains to them, why against the odds, all those real world reasons worked out. The bigotry is that people claim they aren't for war, just for wiping Israel off the map. ==================== Nature's corner posts catagorically false bigoted make up quotes about israelis such as the Menachem Begin one at the end. Menachem Begin never said anything like that! Thereby showing he/she has no ability to vet info & gets it from false sources that will happily lie through their teeth for their war.

THANKS for citing this history. I knew about it but didn't have the specifics to refer to it in conversations. I totally agree with you. No matter how much the reconquistas falsely claim we stole their land, the simple fact is, we didn't. Spain took the land first. Then Mexico became independant. Then Mexico ceded the North to the US. California is one of those places with a history rich in Indian, Spanish, and US culture. I hate when it is tainted by lies from people who clearly hate us and have wrongly declared war on us. The reconquista story of us stealing the west is propoganda, so don't anyone believe it. This land was not taken by war or theft. It was taken peacefully. And this all occured 150 years ago, and is history. We need to start focusing on how to solve the current problems. I say, either annex Mexico with a bloodless takeover like before, or stop allowing foreigners to take our jobs.

Correction: The 'Si Se puede' is for an amnesty. O.k.?

I'm Mexican an as a Mexican I can tell you that THE MAJORITY of Mexicans don't want to claim nothing against Americans lands. I think it's sad that you use how some Mexicans think against others who don't feel that way, BUT it does not surprise me.

Greetings from Mexico! Mexicans BY NO MEANS have a right to reclaim what is not ours!!! It is very stupid to claim what was lost long ago, especially when those who claim these lands haven't read enough of history to know that what's done is done, and Mexico and the USA have their own territorial extensions for a number of reasons.

To think other wise is as stupid as believing the USA have the right to INVADE whichever nation suits them ,as long as they have oil. It is also stupid to think that the people are stupid enough to buy the "freedom and democracy" argument the US are trying to sell the world. IT even MORE STUPID to think that the tens of thousands of innocent men, women and children that have been massacred coldbloodedly by the US Army were "terrorists", or to think that Gitmo is a legal prison, or to think that the Abu Gharib horrible actions are a justifiable consequence of war. Yes, some people are VERY VERY STUPID.

Hell no!!! They don't have any claim at all and they just make themselves look like fools when they carried those dumb signs on their May day event. The signs like, "We were here first" and "This is really our land"

Obviously, they think because they say something, it will make it true. I tried that once. I said over and over that I was the Tooth Fairy and when I woke the next day, you know what? I wasn't .

Lately the criminal element who have invaded this wonderful country have made many, many claims, most of which have been proven false by cold hard facts which cant be argued. As they make up or interpret the facts to gain advantage, it is simply a propaganda tool. Any thing can be claimed, simply claiming a thing doesnt make it yours.
