Jacks are very active assertive little dogs. They think they are the toughest thing on the block. THat is the terrier in them. They are like that.
You first need to get this dog lots and I mean lots of exercise like walks maybe up to hour two times per day. Burn some of the excess energy off. Then he needs to neutered if is not already.
Then socialized in a dog training type class setting.
Get in to some type of class they can show you how to control him and how to disipline him for unwanted behavior.
You need to ket him know that what ever he is doing at the moment will NOT be tolerated by you and YOU are the one incharge.
These can be tought to manage dogs and they need a firm hand and lots of training time and exercise. Once you get into a triaining program just keep working him all the time and he will eventually get with the program.
Good luck.

It sounds like he wasn't socialized around other dogs when he was young. Maybe that's something you could try with a friend who owns a dog--keep both dogs on leads and give them a chance to get used to each other before letting them get close. Now this is the imprtant part: *correct him with a sharp "no"* and move him farther from the other dog if his behavior turns agressive. Without immediate correction, he will not know what he's doing wrong. The idea behind this exercise will be for him to be able to approach the other dog (or vice versa) and react normally.

Be patient, this could take several visits.

well sometimes if male dogs aren't fixed they can be agressive. also he might just be protecting you. I have a jack russel/fox terrier mix (Deeogee) and he has lived with another dog for most of his life yet he still barks and growls at other dogs when I walk him. but I've found that when my sister or someone else walks him he doesn't bother other dogs or makes a fuss. I think he's just trying to protect me. your dog may be doing the same thing. have someone else walk him solo and see if the same problem occurs

My Jack Russell is the same way, even when he sees animals on TV, yes, he watches TV. I believe it is a protection thing. Every time my guy does it, I watch him. As he's barking, he's moving himself between me and the other dog/animal, all the while keeping one eye on me and one eye on whatever he is barking at. You need to pet the other dogs, if possible, to show your little guy that everything is ok, and he can go back to just enjoying the walk or playtime.

Dog trainer can help and also keep in mind not all dogs will like every single dog. Just like people-we don't like everyone.
