we have been saving for the last 5 months and have a nice chunk saved up, but i am still nervous that it isnt enough. About how much money should we have in the savings by the time baby comes? He will be here in november.

The nice thing is the baby really won't know the difference. Save what you can, prepare for what you can, and take life in stride. The expenses will come and you'll figure out how to handle them. Continue your savings and get ready for the ride of your life.

First off, Congrats on the baby. I have no clue how much a baby will cost buy i do have a few ways to make the cost go down if its any help.

1. baby shower. That's a great way to get things you might need and you don't really want to have to worry about.
2. if you have any friends that have had babies, hint around that you would like some hand me downs.
3. Breastfeed. Not only is it better for your baby, it will save money on milk.
4.Buy a crib that you can take down into a toddler bed.
5.Look for coupons on forums that will cut the cost on things you will need after the baby is born.

Just a few I can think about at the moment.

With the money you have already saved, I would place it in a savings account that gains interest. Might not be much, but hey every little penny will help!

you'll never be able to save 'enough' for the baby. Think about college, cars, clothes, a house (yes, some parents actually buy their kids homes) etc. etc. So, unless you have millions of dollars you'll never have enough. Thats ok though, its great that you're saving and planning. Anything you save now will just make some future event easier.

Congratulations!

As much as you can, it'll cost way more then you think. Also, look for second hand items like cribs (make sure they were made after1999 as the guidelines changed then) and clothes. The only thing you should NEVER buy used is car seats. There are also amazing programs to help you cover a lot of the cost, like WIC and different organizations that will help like the La Lache league (for breastfeeding) and even Pampers, Huggies, Enfamil and Gerber will send you free goodies and coupons.

doesn't matter how much you have saved. quit worrying. You should be worried about how healthy the baby is. don't make money such an issue. You are doing the best you can, and that HAS to be good enough.

ALOT... if you have everything like crib and things like that...wait untill you have a babyshower and see what you get then you should know what you will need to get afterwards...like at my baby shower no one got diapers so we spent alot of diapers but didnt spend much on clothes because everyone bought us clothes....and we had the crib and cradle swing before i was 5 mths so it depends on what all you have already.
