You ever heard the saying "people fear what they don't understand"? Can you think of any other religion that heals the sick and works miracles and has accounts of unexplainable acts? If you know the Bible, it says that we (Christians) are a peculiar people. Christians who're really trying to be like Christ are much different (or are supposed to be) than everyone else. Most people have a problem with those who don't fit into the status quo and those who make them feel uncomfortable by being too "good".

Part of the Christian call is to spread the Christian religion - i.e., convert people. That's what creates hostility, I think. When a Christian is trying to "save someone's soul", it makes the Christian appear self-righteous and somewhat conceited to a non-believer. It's extremely difficult to converse with someone when you're convinced that you're right. Most productive conversations involved some sort of "give and take". But witnessing, by definition, is all "take" for the person being witnessed to. They have no opportunity to counter the Christian because the Christian is convinced of his or her belief and is not open to other ideas; if the Christian was open to other ideas, he or she wouldn't be witnessing in the first place.

Christianity is viewed with hostility by society because Christianity views society with hostility. Christians view non-believers as "souls to be won for Jesus." If someone you didn't know came to win your soul, would you just give it up? Or would you be defensive? Or maybe even hostile?

Just what culture do you live in? I'm in the US and the majority IS Christian... so I don't see it as hostile TO Christianity at all.

When christians are eighty percent of the population and nobody running for public office can hope to be elected without invoking the name of god every thirty seconds, how does that make for a culture hostile to christianity? It just don't add up.

It is all the right wing, propaganda, to pull in those voters, who think like they do.
Have you ever come across any hostility? I doubt it, although I'm not a christian, I'm not religious, this Country is still by a large majority a Christian Nation. We just don't like having Christian ideals rammed down our throats.
Pray when you want, go to church every day if you wish. No one will stop you, but don't tell us, what we must do, and suffer.
There are other religions, that don't support your theories, and don't care to have your faith, thrust upon them.
Particularly in Public Places.

Whenever someone says that they have the moral absolute and the only way to do something (in our case to be saved). Others get offended since it excludes what they want to do.

If you want to know more about how Christians are persecuted even here in America (I know nothing compared to China and other countries), check out the book "Persecution" by David Limbaugh. It's a great read with over 50 pages of bibiliography to his sources.

Really? It feels to me like our Christian-based society is hostile to anyone who's not 100% Christian. If there's nothing to what we say, why do I get so many emails telling me I'm wrong?

Ok, Christianity is THE largest religion in the US and dominates American culture as a whole. It's interesting to me how it is the Christian community who is always crying victim, especially with the hatred I see to minority groups (blacks, gays, non-Christians).

The "religious right" declared war on all non-Christians over twenty years ago.

What else do you expect?

Do you think we are going to just sit idly by while Christians re-implement the Inquisitions and executing "heretics?"
