One of the Ten Commandment is "Thou shalt not kill" and Jesus himself was a pacifist. What happened to "turn the other cheek"? I can understand waging a war of self-defense, but Iraq didn't do anything directly to harm us. 9/11 was an attack brought on by a terrorist group--not a country thousands of miles away from the Taliban.

The President claims he is a faithful Christian and when asked if his religion impacts his decisions he answered yes. I don't agree with his being president, but obviously a majority of America did. Not to mention the fact that there are more Christians in America than any other religion. Therefore, America IS, technically, a Christian country.

The US is not a "Christian country."

The US is a capitalist, atheist nation dominated by so called Christians who would kill their own children if they could earn another dollar by doing so.

Actually, it states that you shall not murder (not kill).

Jesus was not a pacifist. Would a pacifist upturn the vendors tables in the temple. Of course He did not kill people or attack the government with swords, that was not what He was here for.

Turning the other cheek did not mean to allow people to attack you. During the culture of the time, it was very insulting if someone hit you with the back of the hand. So if someone hits you on one side with the palm of the hand, when you turn the other cheek you are in effect allowing the person to insult you. As Christians we will always be insulted and we are to not attack back from being insulted. However we are not to roll over and play dead.

I am not addressing the political issues in your question.

I think there is a remarkable set of future leaders in the young people of Iraq, and there was something terribly oppressive about Saddam Hussein's government that was going to stifle the spiritual and physical progress of those young people if someone did not interfere and help create something that would utilize their talents instead of the old government torturing those talented individuals for years in prisons. At this point I am going to say that there is always more to war than meets the eye, and time will tell in the long run as to whether or not the 126 million plus citizens of Iraq will grow spiritually and economically by leaps and bounds under a more open form of government. Let's wait and see.

Dear Sidra,

Why do you consider the United States a "Christian" country? I answered a similar question no long ago... But just because a person wears an airline pilot uniform, does that make him a pilot. Because a man has an M.D. license, does that mean he is genuinley concerned about the health and well being of his patients? Let me point out to you that those who drove the planes in to the World Trade Center were. Similarly, these doctors who raped and molested their patients under anesthesia had an M.D. title. You see there are many people who claim to be "Christian" but are really not. Look at Matthew 7:21-23 in the Bible. As for war-war is not wrong. Remember in the O.T. God had told the Israelites to go in and conquer the land. I do not have time to elaborate but war is not wrong, but muder is sin. Please see www.familyradio.com for further info.

the united states is not a christian country. it is a democracy with fredom of religion. you can be muslim here you can be buddhist. you can be an athiest. unfrnutally our president is blissfully unaware of this fact(and most of the facts of the rule of law and the constitutiion) but what can you excpect from someone who was a c student? also I don't think iraq is thousands of miles from the talibans power base in afghanistan. although you think the president would know where they were located because his father as vice presudent under reagan set them up in power and taught them how to make bombs.

Although I do not agree with your logic, I too do not agree with the war in Iraq. I am a born-again believer, but the two passages you speak of(in context) refer to personal quarrels. Throughout the old testament God's people pillaged many nations killing children and women.

I would hesitate greatly to refer to America as a "Christian" nation. I would never die for my country. However, I would do for my God.

Just because Christians live in this country doesn't make it a Christian country. Alot of people of all other religions live here too. I would really say that this country is based on very FEW Christian principals.

Thats easy, because were living in the last days. In the book of Revelations it states that before the second coming of Christ, Christians will endure persecution from many nations, but God says rejoice in persecution because either way, we will defeat Lucifer (Satan) and win no matter what!!
