sounds like a great idea, will you be heading up the initiative? Show me where to sign. oh, but one thing you need to specify, it is "Organized Religion" that is the root of all evil, not "religion", because technically "religion" means a belief, and I bet you have your own "beliefs".

If religion is banned something will take it's place, a dictatorial government, fear to the police, sex, the common folk need something to hold on to and that will become "the root of all evil" take American society for example religion was pretty much vanquished but a new religion arises "dolarism" and now we worship the mighty dollar and for some that's "the root of all evil"

perception is key word here and we thinking beings need to be careful what we label as absolute because it will make feeble minds respond in anger, if you need an example check out the other answers

Money is the root of all evil. As for the state of wickedness - I find it ironic that those who claim religion is evil are the ones most given to disrespecting others the same if not more so than many Christians., and much of these non believers sound more like the type that would punch your lights out for disagreeing with them.

One has to love these goofy questions that are not questions but statements of falsehoods. Religion is NOT the root of all evil, nor is money. "Love of money is the root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows" (1 Timothy 6:10).
As one who has worked in education extensively, I can assure you, sir, that THIS is the root of all evil, in schools and everywhere else. The first and biggest problem in our public schools is the love of money: greedy for more government money to expand their power, administrators do anything--whether or not it helps or hurts students--to get more government $$. I've been at too many schools who principals really didn't care about what was best for the students--they only wanted more money for their programs.

well, I wouldn't say religion is the root of all evil, just a deep source of hatred and stupidity.

That said though, I don't think you can ban something like that from public because well.. the way I see it religion is a personal thing, so its with you wherever you go regardless of what you believe, so think of it like freedom of thought + freedom of speech.

As long as its not actually harming anyone physically at the time(such as someone beating up someone else because of their religion) then I don't think theres any reason to ban it.

Of course though, I DO believe in separation of church and state and keeping all kinds of group worship off school grounds, but this is because I believe if you are going to let one religion practice its faith somewhere, then you must allow all religions the same priveledge. So say.. if they were going to allow prayer in school then they would have to have all religious and non religious practices held as well.

Religion is not the root of all evil. Forcing one's own views on others is.

To ban religion from the public domain would be tantemount to Communism. People who do follow religion would therefore be the ones who will be victimized if it becomes banned.

Absolutely not. Unlike many countries in the world, the United States still has free speech. After all, we put up with seditious people trying to undermine our President and country, people who make all sorts of claims about this site, and people who make up ideas like, "Religion is the root of all Evil". It seems that you must not be a U.S.A. citizen or at least not aware of the basic freedoms this country cherishes. Either way,...

NO! We support freedom of speech and Yahoo! Answers, bless them, like many (but not all, by far) good things, started in the United States of America.

However, since it is "their soapbox", should Yahoo decide to do so, that is their right, just as it is their right to define terms of abuse (which you haven't abused).

Thank goodness for our freedoms, even the freedom to ask this question for the thousandth time, and see it get shot down for the thousandth time because of the strength of our nation and all nations who value freedom.

Keep speaking up, so will we.

Religion is not the root of all evil. Evil only exists as a tool of humanity to control the actions of others through fear-based living.

Since Stupidity is the root of all Evil, why (oh why) can't we ban it from Public venues?

Your assertion is unfounded. Religion by itself is not evil... it is the humans who try to control & manipulate it that give it a bad name. Organized religious activities may SEEM mindless and driven by the unfeeling drones of "practiced" liturgies... but unless they have mal-intended political agendas, they are generally innocuous, & they even serve to fill some human psychological needs... your only real beef should be with the theocratic mentalities of the religious extremists in this country and around the world. Try rephrasing your sentiments in a reflexive and less provacative way... it's borderline incendiary. STOP IT! NOW!
