Rev. 13:17-19 17so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name.
18This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666.
It is best considered in the context given. I would assume from this ONLY passage it appears in the Bible to be a number imprinted on people. Their foreheads and forearms I believe. Don't believe all the other crap you here.

You have received many good answers. So I will not repeat the truth they proclaim. An additional note is that 6 in the bible simply represents Man. So the three numbers together is a mocking of the Trinity. Three (nations, men?) that stand together against God's people, causing us to not be able to buy and sell. For the true believer, not conformed to the greed of this world, it will not be a difficult decision not to choose the mark of the evil one.

Triple 6 (666) is the number of Lucifer (also known as Satan, or the devil). It is known as the "Mark of the Beast" which is supposed to be given during the Tribulation by the Anti-Christ. No one knows who the Anti-Christ is yet, but from history, the time of Tribulation is soon coming.

Yup, 666 is supposed to be the mark of the beast.

The Bible in the book of Revelation says that it's number of the beast, meaning in some way it will identify the antichrist (beast) when he is on earth.
