some dentists may give you gas to relax you but not put you to sleep

No, it's not necessary to put you to sleep. There is minimal pain. You may just feel uncomfortable with the mouth piece in your mouth for a such a long period of time.

As far as I know they don't. I had braces, getting them on was NO PROBLEM!!! didn't hurt at all. If you are worried or afraid, mention it to your dentist/orthodontist and maybe he/she can numb the area, or talk you through it.

no, there isn't any pain involved when they put braces on...it's the hours afterwards that hurt.
