the current theory is that they are caused by constricting vessels in the brain...many things can set them off depending upon the person. certain foods not a regular sleep schedule smells women before their menstrual cycle smoking and caffeine or alcohol especially red wine to name some. They do get better with age and will eventually leave you. The only things I have found that work that are non-narcotic are topomax daily and axert at the onset. Hope this helps.

I have had them all of my life, and I have a crisis at least once a week. Sometimes they last from 8 hours to a week. The pain gets so bad it makes me throw up. I have been said (by several neurologists) it can be triggered by a lot of stuff, but mostly because your body reacts to some things that way (some foods, menstruation, stress of any kind, heat, smells, etc). The only way you can find out what causes YOU migraine, is watching carefully what exactly you did or eat or you were feeling about 4 hours before you get the headache. Good luck!. Becoming a vegan was a good idea for me too.

Migraines...pity, painful. Anyway, check for triggers,i.e., red dye 40, sorbitol, any artificial sugar, old orange juice, old wine, open after the first day mold sets in. Pickles, vinegar, peanuts, peanut butter, raisins, ice cream that has frost on it. In other words food gets mold on it, mold is a trigger. Chocolate is made from moldy cocoa beans...sorry. Hereditary. Excederin Migraine works wonders if taken at first sign of pain. And then there is always STRESS!!! Good luck to ya.

LOTS of people get migraines ! So you're not alone... I'm not sure if they get worse or not.. it's probably different for all people. and how much pain you have can be different as well... it varies from person to person. If they're bothering you too much though, you should see a doctor for a medication or something that can help them! Hope I helped! Good luck =)

I don't have any figures on how many get them, but reading I have done suggests that headaches in general can be caused by low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), a condition resulting from high insulin (hyperinsulinemia).
For basic information on hypoglycemia and hyperinsulinemia, check out www.hufa.org.

Its the bloodcells that are in the middle of the top of your head. Hormones to tension or even stress will set them off.
