I'd say American CONSERVATIVES appear more ignorant about the Constitution, at least right now. Otherwise, they wouldn't propose ridiculous ideas like banning same-sex marriage. The same-sex marriage amendment President Bush backs absolutely contradicts both the 1st and 14th Amendments. So if he wants to repeal freedom of religion and equal protection under the law, he can go ahead and put bigotry into the Constitution. Otherwise, he needs to find a new issue. The only reason he's pushing a constitutional amendment is because he knows any legislation would eventually be declated unconstitutional by the Supreme Court (even a conservative Supreme Court), which exists to keep stuff like this from happening.
So...many folks in the United States are ignorant of the Consitution, but I'd say that prominent conservatives are definitely leading prominent liberals in terms of ignoring the Constitution.

Because American Conservatives such as the President have trampled upon it, run it over, put it through a paper shredder, and made it into basically a worthless document.
The Supreme Court rules that the President is breaking law by having military tribunals for Guantanamo detainees, and his response is that they will continue regardless....so obviously the Constitution means nothing any more in this country...

Why are American conservatives so ignorant about the U.S. Constitution?
For that matter, the Constitution is a piece of paper. Liberty and authority reside with the individual. Those who would merely permit liberty or exercise authority over other sovereign individuals are tyrants, whether they be of the left or right variety.

I for one, am considerabley loyal to this Country, and I believe patriotic.
First answer might be that WE take things such as defined rights and freedoms for granted,,, not meaning that in an abusive way strictly. We are citizens,,those of us who truly are, and many were Born here.
We are usually insensed, when an alleged or documented Right or freedom is in jeopardy, especially when that applies to US directly and personally.
Certainly I believe the ammendments should be analyzed, rethought, perhaps even rewritten, and I do attempt to be rational and temper my expressions when exercising my 1st ammendment right.
The other issue I see in this country, after 62 years here, is that WE as Americans aren't strictly ignorant as much as we are apathetic and extremely in a state of distrust, as it regards those who guide us,,,IE: Our government and its leaders.
I rarely, if ever follow the "news" any more, because of its content, and its lack of sincerity, as it relates to our politics, our freedoms, and the slant put on almost everything reported.
It saddens me that as the greatest country on the planet, (Biased opinion) we here in the USA, have lost our faith basically, in the years since the Constitution and its ammendments were drafted. I attribute that in large part to what we are force fed and expected to ingest, as it regards our "Freedoms."

Because they're too busy pointing out every time conservatives have supposedly broken Constitutional law. It's all accusatory. They have no evidence to back up their statements. They think that freedom of speech is the right to be anti-American. Of course...they'll never admit that though.

What do you hope to accomplish by asking a question broadly characterizing a significant portion of the American population as ignorant? Are you having fun poking the anthill today?

Because they make up evidence to support their views. If real evidence goes against what they think, like the Constitution, then they just ignore it.

The premise of your question is wrong. How did the Second Amendment allowing all good citizens to own single-shot muskets turn into a license to buy an AK-47?

Well, an ignorant person is one who is not educated. As opposed to a stupid person who cannot be educated. So, at least there is a cure for ignorance. What is your definition of liberal?
