This is absurd. Don't take Holy Script so literally! The Qur'an doesn't say the world "is a carpet"; it says that it is spread out like one. Meaning, Earth's area is very vast and wide.
The Qur'an is not a scientific document but there are many verses that support the Big Bang Theory and even Evolution.
"Moreover He comprehended in His design the sky, and it had been (as) smoke." (The Noble Quran, 41:11-12)
In this passage, the creation of Earth is described as something similar to smoke. Where does smoke come from? Fire. What is fire? Hot gas. According to the Big Bang Theory, the Universe was formed from an explosion of hot gases.
"Do not the Unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together (as one unit of creation), before we clove them asunder? We made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe? (The Noble Quran, 21:30)"
This excerpt also shows evidence of the explosion of the Big Bang Theory when God says that He "[cloved the world] asunder."
The Big Bang Theory also says that the Universe is expanding. Any scientist will tell you that this is true and it is even mentioned in the Qur'an.
"And the firmament (universe), We constructed with power and skill and verily We are expanding it." (The Noble Quran, 51:47)
Islam is the only religion that describes not only how Earth was formed but the entire Universe. This description is a very close match to the Big Bang Theory. The Big Bang Theory could only have come from a creator, however, and that creator is God.
Nowhere in the Bible is the creation of the Universe mentioned. In fact, the Bible lacks a lot of information on how the Almighty created things.

Lol well are you rolling down a steep slope, the earth is locally flat around us. The Mountains stabilize the earth which is a proven scientific fact. The Koran talks about orbiting planets, embryology and lots more. Remember this is a translation you are reading.
Have a read through this website, that proves that science is in the Koran.

quote "Allah was sure that the Earth is flat like a carpet and that mountains are there to anchor the earth so that the Earth does not shake with us"
so what causes earthquakes ?
if not to be taken literally then it is a lie ?

This verse you entered tells not some thing about Earth! it really is holding that he, Zul-qarnain, reached to an ocean. seem at this word: "God of Easts and Wests". nicely, at the same time as can we've Easts and Wests (thinking the plurals)? A: at the same time as the Earth is round!! The translations contained in the link you stated, are literally not precise. We could understand Arabic in solid way. as an get mutually, (20:fifty 5) "He hath spread the Earth as a mattress". it really is not genuine. the fact is: "did not He make the Earth a CRADLE for you?!" It signifies that Earth is the position you advance and also it mentions the Earth circulation.

The Koran isn't a scientific document. It tells you nothing about science and facts any more than a physics book tells you about religion. You can believe it if you want.
Anyway, did you ever think about what shape a carpet is if you drape it over something round? It's definitely not flat.

I am not Islamic ...but I am curious what you might have there ...a Viking portable Koran ...a Penguin ...
I do study Semitic languages ...and I am ever amazed at the nuances, layers and meanings ...whether of Levantine Arabic , or Hebrew ...
Do you suppose your translator has been sensitive to these nuances ...Or maybe like the first Christian missionaries who got their hands on Bhuddhist tractates ...took vast liberties ...almost a crossboard belittling derision and insensitivity ...saying Bhuddhists were simply "atheists" or "idolators" ...
You've been going on with this awhile now ... I'm wondering when you might begin studying Arabic ...

Have you ever seen an oriental rug? If the Koran actually is referring to a carpet it most likely means rather lavishly spread out meaning mountainous regions, grassy regions, desert regions and so on and so forth. It never says the earth is literally FLAT. And Arabs were well advanced in many areas namely science and mathematics. You just have to do your research THOROUGHLY.

Metaphorical Images?? Duh! For people in those days not to get confused. For them to go and discover for themselves, the quran isnt a scientific book, its a book of signs that there is Only One God.
Carpets usually cover something right? Like wooden floorboards or tiles? Kind of like the tectonic plates under the earth and our molten core? So how did Allah know the The Earth was like a carpet?Care to Explain?
Allah is The one true God and Islam is the true religion.

The earth is wide and expansive and looks flat to someone on the ground.
I think this is a beautiful example of figurative imagery, and not a literal statement of the earth being flat.
Best wishes.

It also says that the moon is dragged through the heavens each night by 10,000 angels.
Do you really expect any sane person to believe what the Koran or the Bible or the Torah says. The problems their followers have brought to this world, are incalculable, in terms of suffering for the innocent masses.
