I'm having to go to a cosmetic surgeron next Wednesday for a consultation on a reduction in a couple parts. I know that he's going to recommend I lose somemore weight before I have it done. I've been working out and dieting and pills and have only lost 20 pounds since last November (2005). I'm think about having my stomach banded. My insurance will cover it because it would be listed as a medical necessity and my doctor has already told me that she would sign off on it if I'd give her the go ahead. My question is what's it like? I have been thinking about it seriously now for a little over a month but still am not sure if I want to. I mean after you loss all the weight do they go back in and reverse it or does it stay that way? What about the before and after diets? How sick did it make you? If you have had it done please tell me everything...the good, the bad, the ugly, everything. Thank you.

my mother had it.

they decrease the size of your stomach to hold only one cup.

if you over eat you can potentially kill yourself.

you can slowly increase the size of your stomach, which is what my mother did (and this is not good)

i don't know about everybody, but any kind of sugar makes her have very smelly gas....even diet soda....the only thing sweet that doesn't make her stink is fruit.

if you are seriously considering the gastric bypass be prepared to live the rest of your life without cake.

& continue exercising.....you want to tighten everythin g up if possible.

good luck!

I'm sorry I haven't had it done, but I know someone who did. They really regretted it. Doctors cover this unnecessarily for thousands of patients when they really don't need it. Here is the thing. The idea is that you can't loose anymore weight no matter what you do. That is simply not true. If you can't change your lifestyle habits now, you won't be able to after the surgery and recovery are complete. You have to change your diet and exercise no matter what happens so you might as well do it the right way. Plus, after you get the hang of it you will have accomplished changing your own life.

First of all, surgery is very dangerous. There are so many complications involved and a long time to recovery. My neighbors stomach stitches ripped open causing an infection and so then she had to get another surgery which her insurance for some stupid reason did not cover.

Next, essentially your losing the weight through starvation. This drastically decreases your metabolism making it more likely for you to regain any weight you have lost, plus some even while on a reduced calorie diet.

It just wasn't worth it for my neighbor. Do some research on nutrition and exercise and take your health into your own hands. You'll live longer and be much happier. Trust me on this one.

I've said this before on here. I know a woman who had it done. She got so sick and threw up all of her food. She became so nutrient deprived that her body started to react. Her nerves are now shot from the surgery. She has trouble walking and is in horrible pain. She will never be the same again. This is a last resort surgery. I suggest doing everything you can to really try and lose the weight yourself.

good for you for trying to lose the weight naturally. this is always the best way, as i'm sure you already know!

although i myself have not had this surgery,i know of a few people who have, with mixed results.

the first woman that had it done was 100lbs overweight and was "petite". she had it done, and was the perfect patient. she looks awesome now! she still watches what & how much she eats, etc. she also exercises regulary!

the other two ladies i know of were morbidly obese, had the surgery, and basically didn't change their eating habits, etc enough to help, beicause it ended up busting their bands and they just gained all the weight back.

i don't know for sure, but i've heard that it basically blocks off a portion of your stomach, making the "sack" smaller, thus holding less food...basically a few ounces of food until it is digested.

i hope this helps, and good luck! have a great 4th of july!!!

Gastric Bypass Surgery/gastrectomy/lapband (all types of weight loss surgery) is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges obesity surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.

I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as obesity surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your lobesity surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

My cousin got her obesity surgery in India throught the forerunners healthcare .SHe is more than very happy with the results. She has lost 65lbs in 5 months. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.hope this helps
