Yes. Advil has ibuprofen in it, which is toxic to dogs. Advil is coated with sugar, making it taste good to the dog.

Unless a veterinarian has specifically prescribed it in an appropriate dosage, your grandmother is likely killing her dog.

"Less than one regular strength ibuprofen (200mg) could cause stomach ulcers in a 10lb dog, and about six could cause kidney failure"

Yes! Advil can cause serious side effects with dogs! It is considered poisonous by the ASPCA Poison Control.

As little as 8mg per kilogram of dog can cause stomach ulcers and intestinal inflammation. 16mg/kg can induce vomitting, diarrhea, and weight loss. There has even been a case where a dog was given 3mg/kg every other day for six weeks.... The dog developed a FATAL stomach perforation!

Tylenol (acetaminophen) and Advil (ibuprofen) are common over the counter drugs that humans will take for aches and pains and as a fever reducer. Unfortunately, these drugs do not act the same for dogs (or cats). As little as two, regular strength Tylenol can cause organ damage in a medium size dog.

Unless told otherwise by your veterinarian, human medication should NEVER be given to a pet.

To be honest I don't believe it will but I'm surprise she didn't get hurt from having 7 the other night she's a survivor but why is your grandmother giving her Advil once a week unless she's in pain and can't fall asleep there is no need for her to have Advil.

Please don't give Advil to your dog! Ibuprofen is dangerous to pets. Without direct orders from a vet to use it I would stick with a low dose of plain old baby aspirin. Make sure it's buffered or the equivalent or it will upset your dogs stomach. I use generic 81 mg baby aspirin and calculate the does based on my baby's weight and the amount of pain he's in. That's usually between two and for pills, but I would calculate an individual dose for your dog.

advil shouldn't hurt
7 probably will though.
the thing that people don't realize is that the vet medication that is given is just a different name but is the same that is given to human. but in smaller dosages. When giving any dog or cat any human med. I would talk to the vet if unsure. I usually give my dog a childrens dose. Any med that would mess with a human's liver I would not give to a animal

Well, my vet told me that it is okay to give Aspirin, but not anything like Tylenol. I personally think that Advil would fall into the do not give category. I think you should seek your local vet for advise on this matter.

Tell grandma to quit with the Advil thing. What is her problem?
Does grandma mean to give it to herself & not the dog, gets confused?

Pease don't! Advil is toxic to a dog, and will cause liver failure.
The amount builds up in the liver, so you don't see the damage right away, but it is lurking, and one day the liver will just shut down and te dog will die. Advil will also cause internal bleeding...a sneaky problem that you won't see until it is too late.

I would talk to the vet about that one. Most likely if the dog was going to have a reaction she would have already, but giving dogs human medication, esp without a vet's approval is risky and stupid.

Tell your grandmother to stop trying ot kill your dog and take it to the vet to make sure theres no harm done yet.

I have to disagree with contributors who have included sweet potatoes, rice etc in a dog's diet they don't need these, there's absolutely no nutrional value whatsoever. All the dogs in our pack, 4 Northerns 1 small Terrier, have fruit. Depending on dog's choice, one loves absolutely adores bananas, four of them preer apples, all of them pick blackberries from the bush in summer. I can't find any mention of anyone here calling sweet potato and rice 'junk' food. Personally I don't give my dogs carbs on a raw diet but if you want to feed rice go for organic brown rice.
