Oh you are so right about enjoying the smiles. The BEST Thing to do in Thailand - is learn the language, find a job, get an employment visa (or make montly border runs) and stay for as long as you possibly can.
The next best thing to do is marry a Thai woman.

Best thing to do in Thailand is to smile and watch the terrific smiles that will be returned -
Many places have great beaches, diving, nightclubs etc.. but only Thailand has a vast population of Thai people - - and they love to smile.. be friendly, make friends and a smile means alot to a Thai.. - Find out what it really means to be in "The Land of Smiles"

Koh Samet in the Gulf of Thailand is the most beautiful beach place I ever visited. As for culture, I'd recommend going north to Kanchanaburi.

Peanut, you are spot on. Had some great times in Kanchanaburi - we travelled into the mountains to a fantastic temple. We stayed at Jolly Frog Backpackers - and I recommend it highly. Thailand is wonderfulness entirely. Go. See. Enjoy.

I have been there and yes it was one of the most rewarding things I did on my trip. To sit next to those tigers was so surreal. Definatley go and see for yourselves - there is no need to pay large sums of money to go on a "tour" it is quite easy to get there on your own.

Diving, diving and more diving.the ocean is great (so are the women)
The touristy thing is OK see the temples and visit Bangkok, stay away from patpong except to look,
Most of the beach resort towns will "love you long time"
