MRSA is Methacillin Resistant Staphlococcus Aureus
Make sure you see the Culture and Sensitivity results, and see what antibiotics is Sensitive to the type of infection...
It takes a LONG time to get rid of, but it will go away
Just be diligent, b/c antibiotics need to be in the baby's blood stream at a therapeutic level at all times... or the staph will just appear to go away and when the antibiotics are over, it comes back just as strong

Some people here are confusing MRSA with VRE or Vancomycin Resesistant Enterococci...

Yes, I almost died from it a year ago. I caught it from a patient (I am a nurse). It started out looking like a spider bite, and then I went to the doctor to get it looked at, and he gave me some antibiotics and cultured it and said that if it really was MRSA then he would call me back and do further treatment. WEELLLL, I never got a call back and a month later I was laying in bed, could not move, had a temperature of 103.7, and could not eat. My fiance insisted that I go to the emergency room. When I got there I was told that I had the infection the whole time, and I had to be in the hospital for a week and a half and have 2 surgeries because the infection had gone to my blood (called sepsis) and had made all of my joints, especially my hands, swell up to the size of softballs. They had to leave the wounds on my hands open instead of stitching them up and let them drain for 2 months.
Mine won't go away either. it takes a long time to get out of your body. My infection doctor told me the best way to keep it under control is to stay away from other people that might have it. And always have your baby take the antibiotics exactly as prescribed, and surely that will help.

it's expected not to go away with antibiotics(at least not quickly), considering MRSA is a super bacteria created by doctors despensing too many antibiotics and people not completing their cycles of antibiotics. Now this strain of infectious bacteria is capable of resisting pretty much all known forms of antibiotics and can be found many places these dayz. It sux.. my GF has Cystic Fibrosis and MRSA is one of the scariest things to watch out for for us because it's plain out lethal to her.

have delt with mrsa before... if the antibiotics he is giving arent working then you need to ask for something different.. i was given a shot as well as oral antibiotics but there's more than one antibiotic for msra. Also remember prevention is simply good hygene.. so wash hands often.

it is a variant strain of staff that resist usual antibiotics...... vancomycen and timeintien iv treatments have been known to kill it.......it lives on almost all skin but is a problem when introduced to tissue.....this usually happens in surgery...... i had this type of infection and was cured......there is skepticism that it colonizes in one place and never leaves your body.......for me this has not been a problem or proved to be true.....staff has since mutated to a vancomycen resistant strain and i'm unsure if a new antibiotic has been developed to kill it.......my spelling may be wrong on the antibiotic names but they did cure me.....mine localized in my trescha after surgery to in-tube me due to phenouma....call your doctor with this info...good luck
