Is it cool being a Vehicle mech in the Army? Where did you get deployed?

Will it help you get a good career as a vehicle mechanic in the civilian world?

I wanna be a light-wheel vehicle mechanic.

My dad was a Tank Mechanic in the Army and he loved it. He was stationed in 7 states and a few countries including Germany and Austria. He retired a few years ago from the military (11 years full time and 11 years in the Reserves). He obviously didn't do that out of the military, but it did help him with his career in Heating and A/C.

I currently work for a recruiting firm that head hunts for possible employees. And trust me I've had my share of searches for diesel mechanics, hydraulic techs and all levels of mechanics. In a lot of cases, some of the companies that are hiring prefer a contractor that has experience in the military.
