It's hard to diagnose something like this outside of a vet's office. Many cities have emergency 24-hour vet clinics for just this sort of thing, or your vet may have a number you can call in case of emergency. I would check with them to see if they would want you to bring the dog in, or if they think it can wait a couple of days. If he's bleeding internally, it could be serious.

There is several things that can cause this from ulcers to intestinal problems to basically nothing it could just be something that he got hold of that when it is passed it looks like blood. My dog ate vienna sausage and it looked like a lot of blood but it wasn't. If it is just a little bit of blood and he is eating and drinking then he should be fine untill you take him to the vet. Just keep an eye on him and check his stool very regular to see if any major changes occur.

Take to the vet the minute they open- there are a lot of bad things that can cause blood in the stool, hopefully for you it will be something simple like hemorrhoids. Remember to take a fresh stool sample with you so the vet can evaluate. I wish you all the luck in the world that this turns out to be something simple. GOOD LUCK!

Keep an eye on him and his stool. If it continues, it is NOT normal and he should be seen. Try the phone book to look for 24 hour clinics. See if they can help you out. Or, call your vet and see if they have an emergency number that either pages the doctor or refers you to a local urgent care clinic.

This is nothing to worry about. There are very fine cappilliaries in the dogs anus and they sometimes break. The time to worry is if he starts passing a lot of blood. You don't need to go to the vet.

He is not managing to get chicken bones I suppose. From your neighbours or nearby. Keep a close eye on his stools for a few days in case it deteriorates..............

Strips of blood show a open wound by the anus, it should be ok.
