When we go fishing we usually just cast close to shore and reel back into the boat. We get quite a few smaller bass (like one pounds) but we really want to catch some bigger ones. I've tried casting out into the deep part of the lake and never even get a bite.
Where do you cast to find the big bass?

all lakes are diff
work drop offs and structure piles downed trees and such
I get big ones in the same places as the small but out farther from shore
try casting down the shore instead of right at it

My vote is for BASS Fisherman!! You can trust in BASS's answers... he does his research (I have never found him to be wrong).. he certainly has my vote (again... lol).

But since you asked where we catch them.... I look for structure first and foremost. Bait fish love to hide from Ole Bucketmouth... and they love places like submered stumps or trees.. docks.... grass beds... lilly pads or hyrilla.... I also look for points of transition.... areas between the deep and shallow waters or areas where the pond or lake stream runs. But becareful of the thermocline.... the area where there is a rapid temperature change.... bass like to stay in a comfort zone... and being cold blooded, they don't like rapid temperature changes.

bass are ambush experts. fish stumps, trees, holes inside of weeds anywhere where the flow of the water goes pass a blind spot like rock points or around corners. also weed beds out in the open. fish a top water over them, a spinnerbait thru them, and a crankbait along the edge of them.

if you fishing in a pond it depends on time of day if it's a sunny day (blue bird day) not good the bass will most likely be deep in the cool water , if you have over hangs ie: trees rock out cropping things like that , is a good place to try . i have found i have better luck on over cast days .....bass love the shade and cool water . ps. don't forget to spit on your worm lol!!!!!!
