that's just a romantic saying.
do you ever get uncomfortable talking to someone wearing sunglasses, i do, i like to see theyre eyes. We can tell a lot by someones eyes.
The soul is our spiritual essence which goes on eternally. there are many stories about where the soul lies in or around the body or if it is actually our aura. and that the soul is attached to us by a silver cord. if it is attached to our bodies then i feel it would be in the place that represents our emotions, for me that's the abdomen rather than the heart.

YES, eyes are the window to the soul. In the eyes you can see love, hate, anger, sadness, happiness, or peace. Look into your eyes--what do you see?

I don't believe we have souls, but if you define it as the essence of who we are, then I think the eyes are very often a good indication of that.
