Although Top Gun is a teriffic Aircraft movie, there are several other choices out there if you are looking for variety. I take it that you are interested in Air to Air combat themed Genres - one that I myself take great enjoyment in.
Of course there is Stealth, the recent DVD released picture featuring some big name actors and beautiful special effects. Stealth is an action-packed movied that is fun to watch, and surprisingly has a fair degree of accuracy. Although the aircraft in it are fictional, they are taken from the concepts of the X-29 and the Soviet SU-47 Berkut, some of the most exciting close air combat designs if I do say so myself. The AI concept is also pretty neat, and is something that is certainly conceivable. If you are into a little bit of science fiction then this over-the-top action pic might be something to look into. Although I wouldn't call it better than Top Gun.
An older flick is Memphis Belle, a WWII time movie set around a crew on a B-17 Flying Fortress. This movie has some of the cliche older movie style story plots and humor but overall is a great film. It probably goes more hand in hand with Top Gun in terms of quality, but isnt quite as action packed.
Then there is The Arrow. If you are unfamilliar with this aircraft, the Avro Arrow was an Air Superiority fighter designed and built by the Avro Canada company in the late 50's. At the time, and well into the next decade it would have been the greatest aircraft in the world, and based on statistical trends of the 60's and into the 70's would have remained so for some time. However, due to political interception by the United States the project was mysteriously cancelled by Prime Minister John Diefenbaker (I think I spelled that right) and all records and blueprints destroyed, along with the aircraft. The movie follows this historic aircrafts journey through the 50's and although there is no actual combat in the movie featuring the Arrow it is still one of the greatest aircraft movies of all time.

The best and most expensive aircraft movie ever made is Battle of Britain. Some scenes were actually of restored vintage aircraft.

You are correct, any aircraft movie is better than Top Gun.

Girl nothing can beat Top Gun. Stealth is so boring I can never finish watching it.

I liked the Aviator, though its not too aircrafty. It was a good movie just watched it this morning on Starz

There are some other fine movies, but my fave is still TOP GUN!
