How does rubbing your hands on stainless steel under running water remove the garlic smell?

I don't know HOW it works, but it does. If you have a stainless steel sink, you don't need one of those little gadgets they sell for this purpose....just rub your hands on the sides or bottom of the sink.

I've never heard of that. Best way is to use a lemon cut in half and rub it on your hands.
