i mean they left the catholic faith because of the abuses but they could have converted to orthodoxy not start a new religion. and why are they still sinning against the Holy Spirit? GOD did not intend this to happen? why can't we unite to the true orthodox original church?

obviously my question is offensive to some. i appologise but as i am orthodox i have studied the opinions of some priests on the matter of protestant faith. i may not understand the deep reasons for the split but my point is still that splits like theese are not healthy for the church. as for the sinning against the Holy Spirit i refer to the abandonig of some lithurgical proceedings.
again i do not mean to offend any faith.
i can assume that both orthodox and catholic opinions on this matter are identical since the differences are minimal.

Catholic or Protestant, who cares. We can all worship Jesus and close ranks around the cross.

So Orthodox bows to the current Pope? Actually, from what I have seen of it, the Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church do Not agree. As for splitting... um, how did you all end up with an Orthodox church AND the Roman Catholic Church????? Something split up somewhere in order to have 2, don't you think?

Not offended at all. I find all of this to be kind of silly. People are more worried about labels everyone has on their name badge that they forget to actually look at the person.

I would first off state that phrasing a question in this manner will only raise walls and people will not hear what you perceive as a correction of something.
Second, it was not just abuses that caused the separation. While I may find many of the things that the Protestant religion believes unscriptural, I do not believe that a return to Catholicism would be a step toward correction, rather the opposite.
Perhaps you might consider phrasing your question differently?

Protestants worship Jesus and God, not the Saints or the Pope. The Bible says Men should not be worshipped, this includes the Pope, the Saint, and Mary.
The Catholic Church started out right, but over the years adopted many false and unscriptural traditions.
God Bless

Look TRC has it ever occurred to you that no modern-day religious faith is the right one.

They all depend on other humans to tell you (in writing or otherwise) what to believe. No supernatural power has ever spoken to any sane person about religion.

So protestants may be just as right as you are - or even more right than you are. Who is to say which path is the correct one?

I'm sure you sect tells you that not all people with be saved. Why criticize others, why not rest assure that you will be saved but most everyone else would not. You are in an elite group, stay there; you cannot fix everyone!

Protestants and Catholics are both Christian.
Everyone sins...If you ask for forgiveness from God and mean it, you will be forgiven.
How do you know the Catholic way of life is the only way God wanted it to be...Protestants are basically the same as Catholics - Protestants just don't have a pope.

Jesus founded the whole church - that's all of us. He did not found the Eastern (orthodox) one or the Roman one.

Protestants did not start a new religion. They are just trying to get back to the original Christianity.

If you study your Christian History back to the time of the Apostles, you will find that the catholics were the ones that started there own religion. It all goes back to Constantine. Prior to that, and all the way through history, there were faithful Christians that lived as the Apostles did. The catholics were not part of that. Please study your history, then think about your question again and you will have your answer.

One word... "Interpretation" No two people can ever agree on everything. That's why we all have to learn to accept each other's differences and learn to live together in harmony.

You say "GOD did not intend this to happen?" This is your interpretation. And I'm sure you can find plenty of people to agree with you. However, there will be many more who don't.

Stop believing that your's is the only true way. And let people live their own lives.

That should do it. Will you listen?

As with many Catholics and 'members' of 'churches', you miss the entire intent of THE Church as laid out in scripture. First of all, the Church of Rome, the Church of Thessalonica, The Church of Sardis, and the Church of Corinth were not different churches. They were different locations with degrees of variation in their walks of faith based on what the Holy Spirit imparted to them, or what they would receive willingly.

The "original" Church was founded by Jesus Christ in the hearts of men on the single tenent of faith in His Messiahship. God raised up 12 men to bring this message to the entire world, not just Rome. Just as with historic Judahism, men wanted control and stuck their fingers in the pie and added their own traditions. If you read Paul's writings to the Galations and the Corinthians, he pointed these things out.

Catholicism, Presbyterianism, Episcopalianism, and Protestantism are all just buildings. The Church which Jesus founded in the hearts of men still lives and grows, in SPITE of these 'buildings' because God is still sovereign. Some in each of these places will be part of THE Church, and many will not be, just as it was in Judea at the time of Christ. "Many are called, few are chosen." Check out YOUR OWN walk with God real, REAL carefully before you start slapping out at organizations. God is not referred to as "The God of the Jews" or "The God of the Catholics", He is called "The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob". He is a God who calls and meets with individual men, not organizations and councils. The one time He came to a Council of Elders, they nailed Him to a cross!

So who are you to claim that God did not intend for this to happen? When God created the Earth and made Adam He knew EVERYTHING that was going to happen in the future. So you could argue that everything is God's will.
