My girlfriend cannot get out of work early enough to attend the wedding ceremony. It is 3 hours away. Is it ok to just go to the reception afterwards? The groom is a good friend from college who made special arrangements to invite us to the wedding last minute when he found my new address. Now this happens, what do I do?

Go to the reception and have a great time. Your friend would be honored that you took anytime to attend. It is obvious that they want you to be there, otherwise, they wouldn't have made special arrangements to invite you. Attend and just explain later why you couldn't make it to the ceremony.

Yes it is okay for you to go to the reception. Typically if you didnt have an issue with the time you should attend the ceremony..... unlike what other people have said I am getting married soon and I know I want people to come to my ceremony. That is my part and then the reception I am basically paying a lot of money for you to eat and drink and be merry. The ceremony is the important part..... but in your case I think it just means a lot that you are going to come. especially with the late notice you were given.

YES, most brides and grooms don't even notice all the people attending the wedding, they have their heads spinning and lot's of emotions going on. Showing up at the reception and passing on good wishes is a great thing to do and they will hopefully remember that!

Most definetly! I would offer him an explaination as to why you will be unable to attend the ceremony then tell him how much you are looking forward to seeing him at the reception. At the reception, I would make a point of going up to him and his bride to offer your congratulations. Have a wonderful time!

It's okay to go to the reception only if time doesn't allow you to attend the wedding. I'm sure your presence will be appreciated as long as you are there. Also, you'll have time to congratulate the newlyweds personally and they won't know whether or not you attended the wedding. If you want to tell them you missed the wedding ceremony...that's up to you!

It's definitely o.k. Bride and groom won't have who is in attendance on their minds during the ceremony anyway. I'm sure that they will be delighted to have you at the reception, that's when they are more able to socialize and mingle with their guests. Besides if you explain to them what is going on, I'm sure that they will understand and it won't be that big of a deal.

sure, If they really wanted you there, and you can only be at the reception I am sure that they would be glad to have you there even if it is only at the reception. don't worry about it. Besides that is when the fun really starts.

YES, YES, especially since your friend made 'special arrangements' to find you. Just drop him a quick note (or call him) explaining and he will understand. YOU SHOULD GO and have fun!!
