Do Christians realize that telling an Atheist they are going to be judged by God and sent to hell is like an Atheist telling a Christian they are going to be judge by the tooth fairy and sent to Oz?

I have recieved many e-mails from Christians wanting to save me from hell. I don't understand why Christians can not understand I don't want to be saved and I don't believe in hell. I am not trying to put down anyone for what they believe. I think we should all believe in whatever makes us happy. I am an Atheist and I am happy with what I believe, no saving needed. Thank you.

I realize this is a r/s section. I have an opinon on religon, that is why I am here. Just because I don't believe in God doesn't mean I can't discuse it.

I see your point. I guess to someone who doesn't believe at all, telling them they'll go to h*ll really doesn't bother them. That really WOULD be like you telling me that I'm going to Oz.....since I don't believe Oz exists it wouldn't bother me a bit. I'd think you were crazy. : ) Thank you for showing me this-- I'd never thought of it this way before. So that's why the threat of h*ll doesn't work to convert atheists lol.
I see that you're happy with your beliefs. I personally cannot imagine my life without my faith in God, but if you're happy, there's nothing I can say to change your mind so I won't even try.
I do have to say one thing though.....whether you believe it or not, that won't change how true (or untrue, in your opinion) it is. If it were me, I think I'd rather be safe than sorry, just in case all us nutty Christians have it right. But again, if you're happy with your beliefs..........
And thank you for not putting down anyone's beliefs. : )

I agree completely with what you are saying about Christians telling you that your going to be judged by a God you don't believe in. This is something that makes me crazy. So many well meaning Christians try to persuade people to believe in their religion by quoting the bible. If I don't believe the bible then quoting the Bible to me is not going to do anything but annoy me. Or they say "I believe it because the bible says so." You can't defend the bible by quoting the bible. First you have to show me that the bible is true and relevant before I am going to listen to or take serious it's claims.
However, I do have to say that you should believe in what is true not in what makes you happy. The fact is that if Christianity is false then you should not invest your life in it. You are wasting your time. C.S. Lewis was quoted as saying "Christianity is false, it's of no importance, if true is of infinite importance, the only thing it cannot be is moderately important." And in the same way, if atheism is false and there are consequences for the way you live your life then believing in atheism because it makes you happy is foolish.
So I would say don't believe in whatever makes you happy, invest a little time and take a serious look at what you believe. Don't just listen to what others say, but maybe read a few books about why people believe that Jesus really died so you could be saved. Invest a little time and find out if you are investing yourself into something solid.

Hi-

I was an Atheist for many years, and I understand how you feel. I am now a Baha'i, and it is not our practice to try to convert anyone.

You are certainly free to believe whatever you wish-that is free will-and no one should really be trying to convince you otherwise or tell you that you are going to hell. It's a personal decision you must make on your own. But I can tell you that most of the people do have your best interests at heart, even if their approach is incorrect.

Imagine if you had knowledge of something you believed could help others, such as teaching things like basic hygeine to those who had never heard of it or didn't believe it. You probably would want to share this information.

Much like you believe you know that God does not exist and want to share it with others to alleviate them from their ignorance, these people feel the same way towards you.

Just answering your question... not stating my opinion here.

Best wishes.

I don't think they realize what they are doing. I am a christian and I believe in God but all I can do is share Him with you if you choose not to believe then that's you. No one has a heaven or hell to put anyone in. So they need to stop. The bible says Judge not less ye be judged so hwo can they say what is going to happen to you. All I can say is that God and Jesus are wonderful. I believe Jesus died for my sins and if you would like to know more I am willing to share with you but I will never force my beliefs on anyone nor u

I cannot agree with you more! My favorite thing is when I hear a Christian say that something is so, "because it is written in the Bible!" Apparently, this is the end-all to any argument.....

See, the fundamental problem with organized religeon (and especially Christianity) is that the religeon tells the followers that it is the only true religeon, and that it is the followers responsibility to convert all non-beleivers to the faith - REGARDLESS of what those other beliefs may be. This is what sickened me and pushed me away from religeon.

I was raised in SE Asia, where priests told me that I am doomed to eternity in Hell if I did not believe and accept Jesus as my savior. I questioned them - Are there any Chinese people in Heaven? I was told that there are indeed Chinese people in Heaven - only those that chose to convert. All others were rotting in Hell. I have a hard time accepting that a person can be doomed to eternity in Hell when theyve lived a righteous life, such as a Buddhist monk. But, lo and behold, they are all in Hell, along with the Krishna and the Dali Lama. How can a God, who is professed to be omniscient and all loving, doom an entire population to Hell for their belief system? Furthermore, does this mean that all persons born prior to Jesus are also in Hell? Because the religeon did not exist prior to that time.... And what of all those peoples who never heard the word of God, such as the stone age tribes of Papua New Guinea and Africa? Theyve gone to Hell for no reason other than not having had the opportunity to hear the word of God???

So, yes, I agree - telling an Atheist that they are going to Hell is like telling a Christian that they are going to Valhalla (Norse Viking afterlife.)

AS for Kittens response ("Just because you don't believe in something doesn't change the fact that it still exists." [kinda like evolution, huh Kitten?]), I have only one thing to say: Just because you DO believe in something doesn't change the fact that it still DOES NOT exist. Ockham's Razor states that if there is no rational explanation for a given situation, that does not automatically mean that there must be a paranormal explanation for the event.

And then there are the other responses - "It doesnt matter what you believe, as you will be judged one day." Yes - one day when we are dead, the worms that eat your eyes out of their sockets will judge how tasty you are - and thats about all the judging that is going to happen.

If God is really real and really exists, then Id be scared to be a Christian...can you imagine standing in front of the Man you claim to worship, and attempting to explain why you hid behind a viel of being better than everyone else (simply by virtue of being a Christian), yet you refused to follow the laws of God himself? Explain away to your omniscient God why you cheated on your taxes, why you were unfaithful to your wife, why you look at porn, why you have sex outside of procreative purposes, why you lied to anyone, why you did ANYTHING against His word, why you divorce, why you have children out of wedlock, why you use His name in vain, why why why......

Well, let me remind you one thing. If a child doesn't know that the he should not touch a dustbin and when he try to touch it, his/her mother or father tell him that he should not touch it. After three or four times the father or mother beat his child to make him realize that he did a wrong thing.

Now take an another scenario. there is one more child whose father and mother knows that a baby is in home and we should not keep any dustbin to which the baby can reach. And the baby keep playing happily without being beaten by his dad or mom.

Now, after 20 yrs both baby become adults. Now if the first baby still try to play with the dustbin then it is sin for him because he has bee taught by his mother and father (GOD for him). But if the second baby is playing with dustbin then it is not a sin for him, he was never exposed to this fact that there is something wrong to play with dustbin. The first baby deserves punishment(Hell) and the second definitely not.

Imagine same way, A Cristian is first baby and atheist is second baby.

As a Christian myself, I would never try to convince an Athiest of the existence of God, because I am smart enuf to understand that it is impossible for some people to believe in things they have never seen. We all have to make our own choices as to what we believe, and in the end we accept the consequences of whatever those beliefs are.

Unfortunately, THAT kind of christian does not realize anything but what they have been brainwshed to believe. They also believe that the universe works on a 24 hour, 365 day clock. The rest of us would like to apologise for their ignorance. However, we cannot force people to learn. we can only keep telling them that they are incorrect and ignorant of the truth.

Yes, I am a Christian and I am very well aware that telling you that you will live forever, and the only choice you need to make is where you are going to spend it. None of what I just said will make any difference to you.

Just know that as a Christian I am bound by my promise to do GODs work to tell you, meaning I am to plant the seed and water it.
I know that I cannot open your eyes to the truth, only GOD can do that. Only GOD can make the seed grow.

I do hope and pray that GOD will one day open yours eyes to the truth.
