Walking for an hour each day is ideal. And it doesn't matter about the pace- just walk at a speed thats confortable for you.
Breaking it into pieces is not a very good idea. Walking does its greatest miracles if it's done continuously over a long period of time.

I don't know what you are wanting to accomplish in walking. With that said, its not so much as to how far, but how long and the pace. To get a good workout walking, increase your pace to where you cannot sing comfortably, keep that pace for ten minutes and then bring it back down. Gets your heart pumping. Gradually increase the time you walk like this to thirty minutes and bring it down. But by all means you can walk whenever you want.

30 minutes a day, three times a week. Get your heart going for that 30 minutes.

you can walk as far as you want, but you should walk for atleast 30 minutes. You can break it up.
