Sometimes you can find them cheaper (or even free) from shelters or in the classified ads in the newspaper.

If hand fed (meaning they will be easier to tame than parent raised parakeets) usually cost $20 at least here in NY. A quality cage is usually $75, most people cheap out here, and buy a tiny $20 cage, and quality parakeet seed is usually $10 for a 10lb bag. But supplement the seed with fresh fruits and vegatables.
all in all you could be spending up to $105 and this is if you doa good set up that will make the bird happier.

but the food/cages/toys/meds....a lot more!!!
Get from a private breeder~ pet stores carry sick ones
Cost me over $100 to take my sick bird to the vet!!!

it depends where u get em from. but the store i got mine from sells them for about $20 each.
BUT BEWARE: THEY R RIDICULOUSLY NOISY (i know)
