can we take on a war with north korea......who will win???

Without any other country jumping in, USA vs North Korea. The USA will pound the living hell out of N. Korea. But we won't because China is more than willing to jump in.

Well, if it was just between the USA and North Korea, and the USA had no other obligations, the USA could obviously and easily win, but right now the USA is fighting a war on at least 2 visible fronts (Iraq and Afghanistan) with Iran threatening as well. The USA simply cannot financially afford to fight or even win a war with North Korea.
Also, war is much more difficult when the enemy has nuclear weapons, like North Korea possibly has. I think the USA would do whatever it takes to avoid nuclear war.

The United States can basically do what ever they wish. This isn't a defence, it's just reality. If North Korea were to even launch crappy, forty year old nuclear weapon, the United States would nuke they into oblivion in response. China would do little to nothing in response because of the favourable trade relationship they enjoy with the west. They wouldn't jepordize that relationship for a tiny, poor, collapsing communist country.

Then again, the Chinese would likely veto any UN Security Council action against the DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) and we would end up with another Iraq, US only, no international support.

For the record, Iraq was a 'liberation', not an invasion. Korea would likely be a straight out and out invasion and war. I'm a Canadian so this is just an international perspective.

The USA would win the war, but it would end in a nuclear war.
The NKs don't have the technology to reach USA yet but if they should become this technology the war wouldn't have a happy end for USA. Don't forget that NK has at least 6 nuclear warheads and they are building more. With six nuclear warheads and the right missiles to carry the warheads they could reach the west coast of the US and the west coast would burn like hell.
I hope that our leaders (I don't mean the US leaders only) are smart enough to win the "diplomatic war" against NK.
NK is the enemy number 1 of US and of the whole world. The politicians and the mass media don't like to put too much attention to the NK issue because they know that the only solution is the diplomatic way and that it can be that they have to trade with NK in order to have peace. The USA will definitely win. Even IF China were to get involved, the USA would still win. We have many allies, and many bases around the world. China has already said that if NK launches that missile then they are on their own.

We'd win if China didn't jump in and blow us off the map. They are the sleeping giant. Nuclear war with people who don't mind dying is a lose-lose proposition. Better to use diplomacy rather than going around attacking everyone - we can't afford it.

Our technology is so good these days that as north korea tries to attack us we could blow them up with a nuc. We would win easily.

N.K. Has China on their side, most likley this would turn in to WW3 because then its no holds bar because of all the allies and foes.
What would happen is this, we and our allies would go over sea's. China see's the opportunity to attack U.S. because we would only be left with national Guard. Then other countrys thats enemys with our allies would attack them as they are helping us, It would be a big mess.
