I am a stereotypical NYer - I love the city year around. Not sure about hotels - I have been here for ages (www.hotels.com is a good source though). One thing is certain - if you can, avoid driving. Traffic is terrible, parking is expensive and driving is a migraine. The subway will get you anywhere, almost anytime. Otherwise, hop into a cab - cheap, fast (too fast) and no parking problems.

If you live in driving distance, leave the car at home, parking is a nightmare and expensive and hard to find. Take the train and explore on foot, I use hotels.com alot. Have fun.

I think having a car is a problem. Parking is expensive and a problem. I think train and subway is the best way to get around. Try to stay close to manhattan. That is where most of the tourist stuff is. Close to central park...although that is pretty expensive.

Driving is not a good idea since parking there is murder. Try going to hotels.com and see if you can find a cheap place to stay. Good luck, NYC is nice I go when I have the chance, I live in NJ and take a bus.
