Effective discipline

I think that alot of parents these days have no choice but to have thier children be in care while they work during the day...this raises the issue of how parents can find the time to instill thier own morals and values into a child that they are not even with 40 hours out of the week.
I also think alot of parents need help with consisntency (especially those in day care) setting up a routine that enhances the childs sense of responsibility (such as household chores)
And parents also need help with knowing what children are supposed to be learning (as far as thier developmental level) and what materials and activities can be used to strengthen thier skills

Hands down, discipline. You can see it almost anywhere you go. Children now-a-days are way more out of control than 10 or 15 years ago. It might be because there are so many more single mothers out there raising children. Parents are too concerned with being a "friend" to their teens. Parents need to continue to be parents with their kids.

well, my mother is a teacher, and after watching some of her classes, and how the students behaved, I think the biggest issue would have to be disipline.

I swear, these kids were bouncing off the walls, and I doubt some of them had ever heard the word "no" in their lives.

If the students got too out of hand, my mother would call their parents. Much to her surprise the response from the parents wasn't to punish, or even talk to the child about their behavior. They thought my mother was "picking on their child" Because heaven forbid their perfect son/daughter could do any wrong.

I am a sociology major and a high school teacher. the thing i see the most that would solve a world of difference, is they need to grow up. parents are very selfish and childish. you cannot teach a child if you have not grown up your self. you cannot raise a child if you have to put your needs first. any good parent will tell you that what they want is the last thing that happens because your children's needs come first. so i would say teach them to grow up and to be open minded not closed minded adults.

How to agree on parenting styles! Other than that, its usually how to discipline the kids, new ideas to enjoy spending time together as a family, and how to have open 2 way communication with their children.

Disapline. In my neighborhood, the parents need to be outside when their 5 kids are outside jumping on the trampolene, they are in the road. (kids are 2-8) They need more supervision, . Toooo many kids run the streets this day & age. My boys are12&14, I get complemented on their manners which kids don't always use. I am outside with them in case 1 of those little kids do something that could harm them.

Parents need the most help with allowing their children more independance because its hard for them to just let go ...they think oh no if i let susie walk down the road she'll get kidnapped THE WORLD IS A DANGEROUS PLACE....Although that is true give your kids some darn independance.
