It would have to depend on weather or not the country that we came from had a reason to be at war. such as, if Germany had dropped a nuke on New York, yes i would support that war. if the current administration didn't happen to like the current German Parliament, and invaded (Ala Iraq) for the sole purpose of removing the current government. then NO i would not support. and probably move to New Zealand.

When you become a citizen, you take an oath ... you would have to support the United States, no doubt about that! You may not LIKE it if your country of origin is at war with the United States .. you could always protest against it ... like so many do now who are against the Iraq war ... you can be against a war, but what's the point in becoming an American citizen if you're not going to support it? Otherwise, I'd say .. go back to your country of origin ....

Silly silly Robert....white butt kicking only works in places like east LA. Come visit Arkansas and how well that works silly little man! As for your question I am an American citizen so I can't answer but if I went to another country only for financial gain of coarse I would side with my Homeland. That's the part of the illegal situation in America that is such a threat!

My parents came to the US legally, became US citizens and are probably more patriotic than some born here. They love this country and it is their home. They fully support the US and would support the US vs any country (inc. their own homeland). I was born here and feel empowered by my parents love of this country. I feel priviledged to be born here and I take my civic duties seriously. I support our troops no matter what. I use local activism and my right to vote to change the gov't when I can. :)

I completely agree with Jean. Her answer is intelligent and bright, to send money over seas for medicine and food and join a protest to end the war.
In the end it is a hard question because I came to the United States when I was four years old. I have ties to both USA and Mexico. I loved both, USA has given me the opportunities that Mexico couldn't but Mexico has given me the culture and heritage that the USA can't give me.

OK, based on this, Robert should be deported, the two USA supporters should be given citizenship, and the German should be .....
Don't know. Kind of respect that position, actually. The problem is a war would probably not be as cut and dried as either of his examples. It would be something like supporting allies or something. The question is, if given citizenship, would he consider himself German or American? No one supports EVERYTHING the government does.
I agree that this is the crux of the matter, however.

My family has been here for awhile( I am third generation in the U.S), but we still have family in Ireland and Germany. If we were to fight either of those countries, I would support the troops of my country. I don't agree with Iraq, but I always support our men and women there. I don't always agree with the things our leadership does, but I always agree I love this country no matter what. I would fear for the safety of my family over there, and I would try to bring them here if I thought they might be in danger. But I would support my country, no matter what.

The US of course. In the WWII, lots of American of German decent fought for the US in Japan. And lots of American of Japanese decent fought for the US in Germany.
But unfortunately, lots of US native-born citizen of Japanese decent were sent to concentration camps and have their property taken away from them.
