I haven't found it addressed in any etiquitte books but I think it's disgusting. Go outside or in the bathroom. No one wants to hear you honking snot while they are eating.

Yes, that is so nasty. People are sitting down eating and I personally have a weak stomach. Snot and boogers is not something I want to think about when eating my clam chowder. Get your lazy a** up and go the restroom, it takes all of 2 minutes and it's just plain old good manners.

If you can excuse yourself in a timely fashion; most definitely do so. You're right, no one wants to have the sound of snot near by just as they put their soup spoon up to their mouth. Besides, what happens if your hand or tissue doesn't cover all area, and something hits someone else's plate?

In some countries (like Japan) it is not acceptable to blow your nose in public. In Western countries it is not against the etiquette, but you are right - it is disgusting. I always go to a restroom, because I would just feel embarassed. Many people don't, however. Like my grandma :)

Sneezing is natural.

All humans do it.

If you blew your nose at the table without covering it up, then that would be rude.

If you have a napkin or tissue I feel it's okay to sneeze at the table.

BUT, If you open it up to see what came out of your nose in front of everybody then that's a different story.

I totally agree with you, but I would have stated your last sentence differently!!! People who have a need to relieve a snout-full should excuse themselves from the table and go into the powder room or manly-man's room to blow their horns away from people who are trying to enjoy their meal!

omg I hate that so much it ruins my whole meal when that happens. I think that is so rude. But the part that gets me is when they are done blowing their nose they put the dirty *** tissue right on the table. who the hell would want to clean that up. Sneezing is OK but we are talking about out right blowing your nose.

It is ok if you do it quiety with a kleenex. It would be more interupting to get up and run to the bathroom everytime you had to blow your nose.
