True Caviar are the fresh...not nasty old ......eggs of Sturgeon fish ......from the Caspian Sea.....only.....that's true caviar..
Its expensive because it is 1. in demand..2. over fished..3. rare...
All taste is relative....I like caviar....it's not an eat for breakfast food...but something for special occasions....it's really salty...cool to eat with Champagne and little pancakes called "blinis" and creme fraiche....vodka too...

the "roe" gets expensive with the import and processing fees.
And some of the domestics are not that expensive and they are not that bad either

you think about alot of food we think to be nasty, it use to be our food, the poor mans food, think about lobster, ppl use to hate them, because thats all they were eating, rich ppl wouldnt touch it, same thing with cavior, and the food we, the Poor ppl, eat today was once extravagent and high end cousine, Its fuuny hw things all work out in the end

i agree with you : it tastes really bad, i dont like it and it's pretty expensive...maybe it's rare and it's hard to find it :P

it is only expensive if YOU buy it, so if you do not buy it then it is not expensive....
