why is it that so many cults require the sale of what you have and give it to THEM< or worse, they claim the end of the world and tell their followers to sell what they have?

If the world ends, the money you got from selling is destroyed too, so why waste the energy?

I think of buying or selling cars when I hear that stuff.
'we are soo close to a deal. just go up another $500. what is $500? it is nothing.

um ok! if it is nothing, then you take it off your end
Idiots!

why don't people open their eyes and think??

Most people are ignorant.

Because so many in this world have no direction, they are basically lost. Someone comes along and offers what seems like the world to them. Only people who have no direction would believe in these cults. Its not their fault, they are just looking for something missing in their lives.

All too often its too late by the time they realize that it isn't right. Some never do they become so involved, but its the ones that realize and can't get out of it that I feel for.

Because there are alot of people who look outward for answers. Especially when it comes to religion. The only difference that I see between cults and religions is that cults don't let you go home and separate you from everything you know. But religion tells you what to do also, takes your money, although not all, and expects you to agree with them. I had an acquaintance who belonged to a born again Church. He and his wife had 6 children and had saved, through sacrifice, enough money for a modest home. Their pastor who shall remain anonymous convinced them to lend him their money to help put a new roof on their church. He promised they would have their money back in time to purchase their house. Well guess what? He didn't, they lost their down payment and the house they were buying, and tried to rent but without 1 mo+1mo+security, they couldn't afford the fees. Sad but true and their pastor threw them out of the church when they threatened to sue!! Not very different than a cult huh?

Because people want to believe in the goodness of their fellow humans so much that they're willing to give up their own ideas, beliefs, and values for the sake of salvation (or a good deal). It is often a HUGE misconception that a person cannot be a moral person without a diety or organization to be included in.

Does being atheist make someone inherently bad or evil or even amoral? Must one belong to a cult or religion or subsribe to a system of religious belief in order to be kind to one's neighbor, not be judgemental, or help your fellow man?

Is it possible to find your own moral and/or spiritual compass by cutting out the middle man?

it's just exploitation of those who are lost (are there are many out there who are like that)

even the smartest of people if they feel the least bit of isolation will not think right. it's our wanting to fit in that makes us do stupid (which explains drinking, smoking, doing drugs, etc)

this is just another exploitation by those who know how to control. it's hard for people who are not isolated to think this way and we wonder why don't people "open their eyes." However, especially in this day and age when isolation is increasing at an ever-rapidly pace, this can't be stopped.

These cults would never exist in the first place if people did not feel alone.

Some people will be taken up in heaven, and some will stay. So if you believe that you are saved, you will want to sell all your stuff, and people who know nothing about the future will buy it.

Unfortunately we live in a world where there are a lot of frightening things going on every day, and people are searching for something to give them hope..something to hang onto, something to put their faith in. Some people are just very gullible.

It's always easier to let Mommy and Daddy (especially Daddy), or Teacher, or Pastor, or President, or Nice Guy With Big Smile do the thinking for you.

Your question shows that you have not been brain washed.
Most ac ult leaders convince their followers that the money is bad.
They need to trust in God and the profit,Him or her.
To support and lead them to the promised land.
As I said be for they have been brain washed.
They do not ask for all you own until they have you totally.

because there are people out there who will listen to anything and someone is taking advantage of them.....they are not actually thinking if the world ends(the people who are getting the money)they are just thinking of the money... and good actors they are

If you got it - you have to help others to get it. We all are born mentally blind and someone has to love us to help open our eyes to the many bad things in this big old world. Love conquers all.
