Ok, my mother-in law has 12 cats in her home and she feeds all the neighborhood strays. Her house smells awful because of all the cats running wild. Now, my question is why? why do people like cats so much that they have to horde so many? I had one cat that lived for twenty years and just recently passed on, but I never had the need to get more.I am just trying to get some opinons.

She feeds them and loves them, but I was just trying to understand why someone would horde cats. It seems like an obsession to me. The cats pee on everything and the cat hair is so emense you breathe it in when you walk into her home. I just wanted to try to understand why someone would want to live like that.

If you've ever been in an animal shelter, not a no-kill shelter, and you care anything for them, you would understand. These are innocent animals thrown in jail just because they exist and aren't loved. They are put on death row, then given the needle. Just because no one cared enough to love them, or better yet have their parents (and their parents parents, and so on) spayed or neutered. As for the hoarding situation, if the cats aren't properly cared for, that just makes the problem worse. Put out traps and take them to local shelters. They are better off euthanized then living a life of misery from neglect.

Is there a possibility that she wants attention, does anyone bother going to see her, does anyone take her out to lunch? Invite her out for the day? sometimes people who feel neglected by family and friends have a tendency to substitute human affections with that of pets.
She has her own little family now, the cats rely on her for food and attention and this occupies idle time.

These people who consider them as crazy cat ladies should take the time to talk to one of them, I sure you would find them very pleasant and above the average intelligence.

I cant understand why women use the left greater emotional edge of concepts and men use good edge, it makes me gutted that cant stay gently like a bloke yet get emotionally in contact in each and every thing! gggrrr

Cats are gentle, warm and well-mannered. They are the perfect companions for older folk. When dealing with cats, having a whole bunch makes up for lack of attention they give.

Aniaml hoarding can be serious. A lot of these people have some sort of mental problem. They mean well, but can't possibly keep up with the responsibility. A lot of them feel like if they don't take care of the animals, no one will.
