What is the meaning of life? The question itself contains a word that is a misnomer. The word "life" should actually read "death" since this existence that we all like to call "life" is really "death." We all reside in the world of the dead, in "Hades" or "Hell," if you will. And of course, the dead know nothing, hence the reason we're continually asking "What is the meaning of life?" Since we're also inquiring of the dead, we get no sure replies.
Those receiving the gift of life and resurrected will no longer have to ask "What is the meaning of life?" Being alive, they also have knowledge and the answer to the question before it's even asked.

42. Because I'm a tool.
But really, I think that if you live your life "any way you want to" you won't always be content. Do you ever get moments of "this is so pointless?" Like watching a sitcom or something. Sure, it's funny, and you might really enjoy it one day. But maybe the next day you're mad that you wasted your night watching it. And then you think, what else was I going to do anyway? And that is the question- what do you do? I think the whole point of life is 1) to learn things (not like chemistry, about suffering and love, etc) and 2) to bond with the human race. After all, we're all in the same basic position in life, and we will be when we die. Whenever I really feel connected to someone else in a profound way, I'm deeply content. That includes God, too, for me.

This is my belief:
We are here so that God can experience God's self. We are each a perfect individuation of God.
God is absolute. In this state there are no contradictions and no relativity. Everything is constant, absolute.
There are no temperature fluctuations, for instance. How would you know it's hot, if you never experienced cold? How would you know you're tall, if you never saw someone shorter than you? How would you know love if you never experienced hate or fear?
God knows what God is, but the knowing of a thing and the experiencing of it are two entirely different things. For example you know what ice cream is, but experiencing the taste of it is different (and SO much better) than just intellectually knowing that it is frozen cream and sugar.
God created life as we know it so that God could experience God's self in the world of relativity through us, who are each an individuation of the whole.
God does not judge us for our actions...after this physical incarnation ends we will return to the spiritual dimension and decide if we want to stay or experience another physical incarnation. This is how we serve God.
So, live life with joy and gratitude and take advantage of the chance to fully experience every event that comes your way.

I agree with you Nature Boy,
Its to live, some people take advantage of the fact that they have life.
They dont know what they can make of that life, no matter how horrible the one they currently have is.
Spirituality is also very important, and no you dont need a religion for this.
Spirituality I believe is important because it helps you with your, of course spirit. And with experiance I have discovered that it makes you feel alot better on a day to day basis, and in time you become a better person. And you dont need a religion for this.
So yes, I agree with you, Life is the meaning of life. Its a very old question but very easy to answer. :)

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters." It is a phrase that we do not often hear, yet it is genesis of the earth and the genesis of us. You may be wondering "Why are we created?" Some people would say from an anthropocentric view (from man's perspective), "we have been reborn to grow up in Christ and to become more like Him." While some one may say from a theocentric view (from God's perspective), "We have been reborn to glorify God." The conclusion is we are to glorify God by growing up and becoming like Christ. It says in Ephesians 2:8-10, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no on can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."

My dream in life is to never see this question again on Yahoo! Answers. Why? Because eventually one or more tools will answer by saying '42' like they are the first people in the history of man to come up with that witty response.

Behave in a Godly manner, learn to deal with grief, and the greatest of all- love others. I realize that's a pretty tall order, but can be done. Find something or someone you really enjoy- and work on perfecting it- keeps you occupied until you pee on the campfire and go home.
