If you can find a politician who doesn't think he can change anything, it would be a miracle!!! ;-)
As for changing the future, I believe we control our own destinies. If we are controlled by fate, why bother trying to be good instead of doing whatever we want to do?

God has an ultimate plan that will be accomplished with or without us. He has gifted each one of us with gifts and talents that He can use to accomplish great and important things with. He also gives us free will of what to do with our lives and we have to live with the consequences. Lately He has been teaching me to ask Him to do His will though me. I am amazed at how much easier and more fulfilling life is when I do this!
We elect a Christian politician because we hope to hold on to what morals this country has left and to regain some that we have lost so that our country will continue to be blessed and that God will see that we are trying to do his will and He will protect us.
God bless you, Swan

First of all, "Fate" is define as an inevitable and often adverse outcome. Fatalism is the belief that all events are determined by the divine will or by some force greater than man, that every event must take place as it does because it has been predetermined. Not a Bible word or teaching.

You can't make a generalization that "all" Christians believe one or the other. For example, Calvinist theology would state that all was predetermined by God, but Mormon theology stresses choice and accountability. However, I think most people who consider themselves Christian believe that they can make choices and those choices have far-reaching effects. Simply believing that God is in charge doesn't mean that you can't make a difference.

The future of what, the world or ourselves? The future of the world is already written, from beginning to end. God has chosen a path for each our lives; however, He has given us a free will. We can choose for ourselves whether we will follow God's will for our life, or we can try to create our own, but most likely with costly consequences. God's way is always the right way.

It's a difficult idea to wrap oneself around, but I guess I believe in a sort of "predestined free will". We all have the freedom to choose our own actions, but God already knows what we're going to choose. for Him, there is no past, present, or future. I think it's just as simple as saying that he knows everything, regardless of what time category we choose to put it in.
In retrospect, I'm not sure that made a lot of sense, nor am I sure I answered your question. I hope this helped a bit at least.

I believe that there a an endless number of possibilities for each decision we make, and that God knows all of the outcomes and consequences. He is there to cheer our good choices and to help us through the consequenses of our bad chioces. He forgives us our sins, but that doesn't mean there aren't consequenses. It is like when my child misbehaves, I forgive him, but sometimes he must endure consequenses in order to learn and grow.

I believe its an open slate and we can change things. God already knows what we will do, but it can be good or bad, depending on our choices.
