Everybody loves a good conspiracy theory but you need to take them with a grain of salt, along with logic and common sense. I have seen a few of these documentaries you talk about but I saw nothing to convince me of any government involvement.
However, I do believe they have used 9/11 to scare people needlessly and to achieve other goals they could have never sold to the public otherwise, like the war in Iraq and nosing around in people's business where they have no right to.

I don't believe the US gov was "in" on it, but they definitely didn't do much to stop it.
Firing experienced translators who could have helped decipher documents; Not have an effective cooperation btwn Intel Agencies; selling out to Arabs, etc.
