The most important piece of information here is the age of the child: one. If your budget is 150, take 149 and put it in a savings account for the child. Take one buck down to the local dollar store and buy a big rubber ball or just ask for a free box in the local grocery store. Kids love to play in/with boxes. You may think I'm kidding but I'm not. As a parent, there's nothing quite as depressing as forking out a pile of cash for the "best" present and seeing the child whip it across the hall so he/she can play with the box it came in.

Your question made me laugh....not because I found it funny but you may find my answer odd.
My daughter's favourite toy at the same age, if you can believe it was a plastic baby bottle empty with a secured lid. In it I put about 6 nuts unshelled. For whatever reason, she loved the sound it made. It cost me nothing.
I think the best way to figure out what's best for her is to have a look around at what other children in the neighbourhood have for toys and what seems to be popular with them. Alternatively you could take her to the toy store before and see what catches her interest within your budget.
And speaking of budget there are plenty of toys within your budget so resist the temptation to overwhelm her with more than one or two items. And if she receives gifts from relatives, put some away for future use. Periodically put one or two away and pull out one or two to replace them. This way the toys stay fresh for her and you'll avoid 'toy boredom' by rotating them.
Happy Birthday to your little angel....!

I know that when my first son was about that age we got him a Pooh Bear book. It is electronic and it has games in it that have to do with sounds, alphabet, before and after. It was a great thing for him because he loved it and played with it often. Now it is past down to his little brother and little sister. My oldest still plays with it and he is 7 now. I have also found that the leap pads are really good and fun as well. Like some have said, The best time they will have at that age is playing with the box that it came in. You can not expect the child to base his/her playing on just one toy because they are going to get many. She may not play with this toy right away and find something that she is familiar with instead because that is what she is comfortable with. Good Luck and Happy Birthday to the little one!!!

You don't need to spend bunches of money! Get her a big cardboard box, yes I know some people will say I'm a cheap skate, but seriuusly, my son (8) has lots of toys that were expensive and such, but he still get excited when I tell him that a friend moved and has a bunch of boxes he can play with!
Educational? Yes it is it teaches imagination!
If you really want to buy her something thats educational and will grow with her and be fun a "Leappad plus writing" is the best because that one uses almost all of the books, from 1yr-12yr. Get her a box too though hehehehehe :)

When my daughter turned 1 - we went to the Disney Store..MANY MANY options. But I got her the current set of Pooh stuffed toys, with Piglet, and Eeyore and Tigger - all in a bubble gum fur. They're collectibles and also can be enjoyed by your chile for many years to come.
OR invest in the 1 year old LeapPad - that's a good idea too for a toy to help them learn things

What about that cash register/fisher price, with the big coins.I am not sure if that age is appropriate yet,but get one soon. This was my son's favorite for many years. He toted it around, and pressed the buttons and the change drawer popped out, later he put real coins in it,like a bank, and shook it a lot.We still have it.It is amazing where he stuck those coins in crevices that are still in it,we will open this up one day, kinda like a time capsule.Maybe I will find my watch, ring, cheerios??lol!!

at 1 year old keep it simple she will like anything you get her, she is to young to get extravagant gifts right now ,a budget of $150 is absurd for this age, there will be plenty of time to get fancy as she gets older and believe me the gifts will get more expensive as far as educational, just go to the toy store and find a simple educational toy spending more money does not mean they will like it better

I think wagons are great. Right now you would be able to pull her in it but as she gets older she can pull it as well. Wagon's are very fun for children and very useful as well. I use my daughter wagon for everything. We use it when we go on walks, when we go to Yard Sales, when we go to Flee Markets, etc. It works well because I am able to put her in the wagon with all of the stuff I buy. She really likes to pull her stuffed animals and told in it now. (She's going to be two on Wednesday the 19th)
You could also get her a keepsake as well. I got my daughter a beautiful box to keep special stuff in with her name and the date engraved. I thought that this would be something special she could keep forever.
These are just some ideas though. These are things that I got my daughter at that age. Good luck and Happy birthday to your little one.

I would say a rocking horse that's is low to the ground. They also sell push and ride toys kinda like a 3 wheeler bicycle that is entertaining. I like the leap frog toys my self very educational.

My daughter just turned one. Her absolute favorite toy out of the hundred she got from us and extended friends and family is her Comfy Cruiser. They have it at Toys R' Us. It is a little red car that has a handle to push her in. My daughter has to ride in it at least two hours a day and it is good exercised for me and my husband as well. She loves it. She pulls this little caterpillar and vacuum behind the car. We take her to the park and push her around the house when it is raining. I highly recommend it.
