Have you tried learning Polish? We have so many forms of "two":
1. dwa
2. dwie
3. dwoje
4. dwójka
5. dwóch
6. dwaj
7. dwója

and these are just main forms of the word, because there are 7 cases in Polish and it can happen that each of these words will be spelt differently in different case, but will still mean "two"...

English is now a global language. Hmm how did it spread? A lot of people finding it quite easy to learn and speak. Of course, it is dependent on its relationship to your first language and your motivation to learn it that will determine it's 'easiness' but English has definately not been made difficult. English has evolved, just like every other language in the world. as for words that have several definitions its all about context, meaning on a whole sentence level, meaning on a word level, syntax, usage/purpose and tone. The fact that it all fits in is amazing. Love the language!

Actually, English is no different than any other language in this regard. Just look in any really good dictionary of another language and see how many meanings each word can have or how many different English words can translate it. People blame English because our dictionaries are bigger on the average. That just means that English speakers have made bigger dictionaries, it doesn't mean anything about the language.

English is NOT the only language with synonyms. If you have learned other languages long enough, you will run into their synonyms too. By the way, English is the least difficult language to learn. Verb conjugationn is so simple, next to nothing. Same with gender and number. To name a few.

I think it's got something to do with lower and higher english. Some of it's derived from latin and some from french, and a whole host off bits from everyone else who ever invaded us, plus what we alread had and so and so on.
