Bitter in German is the same word as in English and it has the same meaning. Bitter means that you have been disappointed, you are angry, and can't think of anything good now.

Regardless of the other person, "bitte" means "please" and/or "you're welcome".

On the other hand, the word "bitter" in german means, well, I'll just leave the link, and you'll have to figure it out from the context in which it's being used.

'Bitte', is please, or sometimes you're welcome. But, 'bitter' is used in german to mean the same as in english.
So if you heard Sie ist bitter, then it mean the girl is bitter.
But if you just heard someone say 'bitte' to a girl, then it was probably as please or you're welcome.
