If the chase becomes to dangerous, many departmetns will stop the chase no matter what the offese is, since they will not endager the public. Other departments have strick rules on no high speed chases at all.
the police officer doing the chase, or the shift supervisor can call off any chase at anytime.

I am sorry, but first of all, your grammer really bother's me! Ok, now to your need for "help." So you say, "why the police stop chasing him?" Well, unfortunately to properly answer your question, we would really need more details concerning the incident. However, most likely, after chasing the guy for a while, the officer was able to provide dispatch with the offenders license plate number and the vehicle description. The license plate response would lead the officials to the offender, or at the very least, the owner of the vehicle. A lot of chases, especially the ones you see all over television in L.A. are really unnessessary and are over really minor traffic violations. It is very likely that they just plan on investigating the vehicle and the driver at a later time, and if they find out who it was, then they can just go get a warrant for his or her arrest. Unless they were chasing this guy for some sort of felony violation, chasing them for more than a mile or two is nothing but blatent irresponsibility and disregard for the life and safety of the others on the road.
It's hard to stop, don't get me wrong! When they don't stop, even for simply stupid crap like blowing a stop sign, you just want to go and go until they stop, but you can't. You can't catch them all and the chase is in most circumstances not worth the outcome.

Cause an officer has to report into his boss when a chase starts and has to stay in contact during the chase to update the boss.
If the boss feels that the chase is endangering normal folks he will call off the chase. Specially if it was for a minor traffic violation.
They got his license plate, vehicle description. Just plate alone they know the guys name, address, where he works, etc. They will just pick him up in a few days when he least expects it.
Watch Cops more often....all this is explained.

Unfortunately, you don't have enough information to form a concrete conclusion, however, if they stopped chasing him during the vehicle pursuit, it was probably because they were stopping him for only a traffic violation. Most departments abandon these traffic only stops if it becomes dangerous for innocent bystanders or other drivers. As for you calling in, if it was just a traffic violation, the police need to put the driver behind the wheel. If they couldn't get a positive ID while he was driving they can't arrest. (unless during an interview the idiot confesses.)

If the pursuing officer's felt it was too dangerous to keep chasing the person, they can stop the chase. Sometimes the chases end violently and people get hurt or killed. Now allot of police departments have enacted a policy to stop chases if it gets dangerous to the general public.

Without knowing all the details all I can say is some departments have a policy that if the officer in charge feels that civilians or officers lives may be in danger they can advise the pursuing officer to terminate the pursuit. If the officer can identify the driver or knows who was driving, they will go to the Judge and get a warrant then pick up the offender at a later date.

Maybe because the guy was such a danger to the public that the police decided to terminate the pursuit. Remember....dipsh*ts that run from the cops only care about themselves. They could care less if you and your three kids are coming back from the grocery store and they slam into you. These clowns then blame the police because they were being chased.
Cops have a tendency to weight the situation and decide "Hey...screw this...this guy is going to kill someone" and they terminate the chase. That's why.

Officers will not persue the chase if it will either harm civilians or officers. They will still get him, don't worry. There is just only so long they can chase before it becomes extremely dangerous. Thank you for being such a good citizen and helping though.

The police were chasing him, because he was fleeing from them.
Why they tried to pull him over can only be answered by the pursuing police unit.
