If you are spanking your children out of anger and leaving bruises yes. But if you are spanking your children properly, no anger, no hands, and no belt or whips and if the action warrents a spanking, then no. For my children I use a wooden spoon. All you need to use is a flick of your wrist and a little tap on a bare butt. There will be a small red mark but usually withing 5 minutes it is gone. But I only use it if it is pure defience or a life threatening situation. And never spank them in public or in front of someone in the house. I always take them in a bathroom if needed in a public place or at home always in the bedroom. Other siblings and other people dont need to see you punish your child. Also it helps the child save face.

I don't think they should, but spanking is a tough tough subject. I don't really agree with it all the time, but maybe in certain circumstances where it was extreme, ok. I think parents should look at a perspective of the child whenever they do something "bad." Their going to do it whether they mean to or not (most cases not). I think they should be punished fully without spanking for what they did, of course, unless it is extreme like I said before. The less spanking, the better.

No they should not unless you hit them to where it made a bruise, welt or some other mark that stays on the child for more than a day. I think it sucks that we are not even allowed (By standards of Child Protective Services) to spank or yell at our kids nowadays...and society wonders why kids are growing up and going really BAD. I work in a boys correctional facility and let me tell you, if spanking your kids was an allowed norm, none of these kids would be where they are today. I don't believe in time out...that is a dam joke...I don't believe in taking things away because kids know they are going to get it back...I believe in a good spanking, and I do spank my kids but in a way to where they know I am serious and it does not, in a sense, constitiue abuse. My Mother-in-Law filed a CPS case against my husband and I 4 yrs ago and said we beat our kids...well, it was dismissed because I proved to CPS I was disciplining them, and not beating them. So, hope this helps...and if somebody you know is threatining to turn you in for abuse, tell them to bring it ******* on...

I feel sorry for parents today. I spanked my kid when he was little. I even smacked him in the face once when he was a mouthy teenager. I felt like crap for it but come on a little respect here. I think that law is way out of line. I believe that if you are going to really do serious damage or death to a child you will do it weather there is a law in place or not. I believe that this is just another law to tie the hands of law-biding citizens.

It seems like I should not be alive today because of everything they say you shouldn't do today, I did. I was spanked, drank skim milk from a powder, saw open electric outlets, there were no gates on stairs, no latches on drawers/doors, no guard rail on front porch, no v-chip in the TV, no red cap on my toy guns, etc. By today's standards, no one could have been allowed to raise children 30 years ago. Has the death rate decreased that much???

I believe that discipline is necessary for children. Spanking is not child abuse. I guess it depends on how hard and how many times. But if one good spank works - stick with it. Discipline and child abuse are too blurred together these days. It's ridiculous.

Not unless you are physically abusing them for your own reasons. I think that if they are misbehaving or not following the rules then spankings are well within your authority and right to do. I would make sure you don't do it in anger, but make it something that occurs after you cool down awhile.
Spare the rod, spoil the child.

No, I thank my mother every day for spanking me when I was younger, because my friends who didn't get spankings are in jail or serving prison time.

It depends on the reason of the punishment, the severity of the spanking and your own behavior
